Title: Two new species of Clystopsenella Kieffer from Belize and Peru (Hymenoptera: Scolebythidae)
Two new species of the scolebythid wasp genusClystopsenellaKieffer (Scolebythidae: Scolebythinae) are described and figured.Clystopsenella mayasp. n., is reported from Belize, representing the northernmost extant occurrence for the genus.Clystopsenella kampasp. n., is described from the southwestern Amazonian region of Madre de Dios, Peru, and intermingles traits of bothC.pacificaLepeco & Melo andC.longiventrisKieffer. A revised key is presented to the species of the genus.  more » « less

Three new species of the cosmopolitan bee genusAnthophoraLatreille are described and figured from North America, all of the subgenusAnthophoroidesCockerell & Cockerell and all based on a series of females and males.Anthophora(Anthophoroides)buchmannisp. n. from Arizona, USA and Sonora, Mexico;A. (A.)cinerulasp. n. from California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona, USA; whileA. (A.)kellieaesp. n. is recorded from southern California and Arizona, USA and Baja California, Mexico. 2. Two new species of the genusMelinirmusMey, 2017, are described from Australian honeyeaters (Meliphagidae). These are:Melinirmus coromandelican. sp. exPtilotula penicillatus penicillatus(Gould, 1837) andMelinirmus palmain. sp. exAnthochaera carunculata(Shaw, 1790). A checklist of all known species ofBrueelia-complex chewing lice known from the Meliphagidae is provided.

  3. The genus Chilecicada Sanborn, 2014 is shown to be a complex of closely related species rather than a monospecific genus. Chilecicada citatatemporaria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. culenesensis Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. curacaviensis Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. impartemporaria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. magna Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. mapuchensis Sanborn n. sp., C. oraria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. parrajaraorum Sanborn n. sp., C. partemporaria Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. pehuenchesensis Sanborn & Cole n. sp., C. trifascia Sanborn n. sp., C. trifasciunca Sanborn & Cole n. sp., and C. viridicitata Sanborn & Cole n. sp. are described as new. Chilecicada occidentis Walker, 1850 is re-described to facilitate separation of the new species from the only previously known species. Song and cytochrome oxidase I analysis available for most species support the separation of the new taxa from the type species of the genus. Known species distributions and a key to the species of the genus are also provided. The new species increases the known cicada diversity 61.9% to 34 species, 91.2% of which are endemic to Chile.

  4. A new Palearctic species of the cleptoparasitic bee genusDioxysLepeletier & Audinet-Serville (Megachilinae: Dioxyini) is described and figured from southern Spain.Dioxys falsificussp. n. is most similar toD.pumilusGerstäcker, a species that occupies areas more easterly around the Mediterranean (at least from Sardinia eastward and potentially in eastern Morocco eastward). It is possible that historical records ofD.pumilusfrom southern Spain apply toD.falsificus. A revised key is provided to the genera of Dioxyini, and the South AfricanDioxoides alataMichener is transferred toNotodioxytesgen.n.

  5. Genus Pompholyx Gosse, 1851 (Rotifera; Monogononta; Testudinellidae) comprises three species described from freshwater plankton around the globe. Here we describe a new species of Pompholyx collected from a freshwater pond in Massachusetts, USA. The new species resembles its congeners with respect to the following characters: paired eyespots; a dorsally arched lorica with a dorsal occipital convexity behind the corona; lateral flared and rounded lorica surfaces; a ventral surface bearing an occipital concavity posterior of the mouth; a unique egg-gland system; and the absence of a foot. However, P. faciemlarva sp. n. differs from its congeners in possessing a transverse furrow on both the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the lorica. While the trophi of P. faciemlarva sp. n. generally resemble those of other species of Testudinellidae, they do have a symmetrical pattern of unci teeth (17/17) that differs from Pompholyx sulcata (17–20/18–21, right/left), the only other species in the genus with well-described trophi. The description of this new species enhances the floristic richness of freshwater in North America.
