Title: Genetic and environmental effects on hyperspectral leaf reflectance in Fremont cottonwood
Leaf-level reflectance data from multiple genotypes nested within multiple populations each grown in 2-3 common gardens. Both population provenances and common garden locations span the climate gradient of Arizona, USA.  more » « less

  1. TMR combined with configuration scrubbing is an effective technique to mitigate against radiation-induced CRAM upsets on SRAM-based FPGAs. However, its effectiveness is limited by low-level common mode failures due to the physical mapping of a design to the FPGA device. This paper describes how common mode failures are introduced during the implementation process and introduces an approach for resolving them through a custom incremental placement tool for Xilinx 7-Series FPGAs. Multiple designs across multiple generations of devices are shown to be sensitive to common mode failures. Applying the incremental placement technique yields an improvement of 10,721x over an unmitigated design through fault-injection testing. Radiation testing is then performed to show that the of this technique is 91,500 days in GEO orbit, a 367x improvement over the unmitigated design and a 5x improvement over baseline TMR.

  2. We introduce a novel co-learning paradigm for manifolds naturally admitting an action of a transformation group , motivated by recent developments on learning a manifold from attached fibre bundle structures. We utilize a representation theoretic mechanism that canonically associates multiple independent vector bundles over a common base manifold, which provides multiple views for the geometry of the underlying manifold. The consistency across these fibre bundles provide a common base for performing unsupervised manifold co-learning through the redundancy created artificially across irreducible representations of the transformation group. We demonstrate the efficacy of our proposed algorithmic paradigm through drastically improved robust nearest neighbor identification in cryo-electron microscopy image analysis and the clustering accuracy in community detection.

  3. A common challenge in developmental research is the amount of incomplete and missing data that occurs from respondents failing to complete tasks or questionnaires, as well as from disengaging from the study (i.e., attrition). This missingness can lead to biases in parameter estimates and, hence, in the interpretation of findings. These biases can be addressed through statistical techniques that adjust for missing data, such as multiple imputation. Although multiple imputation is highly effective, it has not been widely adopted by developmental scientists given barriers such as lack of training or misconceptions about imputation methods. Utilizing default methods within statistical software programs like listwise deletion is common but may introduce additional bias. This manuscript is intended to provide practical guidelines for developmental researchers to follow when examining their data for missingness, making decisions about how to handle that missingness and reporting the extent of missing data biases and specific multiple imputation procedures in publications.

  4. Abstract With the arrival of telomere-to-telomere (T2T) assemblies of the human genome comes the computational challenge of efficiently and accurately constructing multiple genome alignments at an unprecedented scale. By identifying nucleotides across genomes which share a common ancestor, multiple genome alignments commonly serve as the bedrock for comparative genomics studies. In this review, we provide an overview of the algorithmic template that most multiple genome alignment methods follow. We also discuss prospective areas of improvement of multiple genome alignment for keeping up with continuously arriving high-quality T2T assembled genomes and for unlocking clinically-relevant insights.

  5. Two architectures of fully-planar differential-mode dual-band bandpass filters (DB-BPFs) with enlarged common-mode-suppression bandwidth are reported. The first one, which aims at designs with broadly-separated wide passbands, exploits the loading of extra lines in its balanced symmetry plane. Thus, multiple common-mode transmission zeros (TZs) are created to make wider the DB-BPF common-mode-rejection range. The second one can be used for realizations with closely-spaced passbands and employs a properly-balanced quasi-bandpass-type DB-BPF topology. In this case, the common-mode-mitigation bandwidth broadening is performed by adequately selecting the type of implementation for the short-circuit terminations of its resonating lines- i.e., virtual or physical short circuits in the differential-mode operation-. For experimental-validation purposes, two microstrip DB-BPF prototypes are manufactured and tested.
