Abstract We prove an analytic version of the stable graph regularity lemma by Malliaris and Shelah (Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.366(2014), no. 3, 1551–1585), which applies to stable functions . Our methods involve continuous model theory and, in particular, results on the structure of local Keisler measures for stable continuous formulas. Along the way, we develop some basic tools around ultraproducts of metric structures and linear functionals on continuous formulas, and we also describe several concrete families of examples of stable functions.

Islands in stable fluid equilibria
We prove that stable fluid equilibria with trivial homology on curved, reflection-symmetric periodic channels must posses “islands”, or cat’s eye vortices. In this way, arbitrarily small disturbances of a flat boundary cause a change of streamline topology of stable steady states.

A duality theorem for the stable module category of representations of a finite group scheme is proved. One of its consequences is an analogue of Serre duality, and the existence of Auslander–Reiten triangles for the $$\mathfrak{p}$$ -local and $$\mathfrak{p}$$ -torsion subcategories of the stable category, for each homogeneous prime ideal $$\mathfrak{p}$$ in the cohomology ring of the group scheme.more » « less

Abstract When making inferences about the mental lives of others (e.g., others’ preferences), it is critical to consider the extent to which the choices we observe are constrained. Prior research on the development of this tendency indicates a contradictory pattern: Children show remarkable sensitivity to constraints in traditional experimental paradigms, yet often fail to consider real‐world constraints and privilege inherent causes instead. We propose that one explanation for this discrepancy may be that real‐world constraints are often stable over time and lose their salience. The present research tested whether children (N = 133, 5‐ to 12‐year‐old mostly US children; 55% female, 45% male) becomelesssensitive to an actor's constraints after first observing two constrained actors (Stable condition) versus after first observing two actors in contexts with greater choice (Not Stable condition). We crossed thestabilityof the constraint with thetypeof constraint: either the constraint was deterministic such that there was only one option available (No Other Option constraint) or, in line with many real‐world constraints, the constraint was probabilistic such that therewasanother option, but it was difficult to access (Hard to Access constraint). Results indicated that children in the Stable condition became less sensitive to the probabilistic Hard to Access constraint across trials. Notably, we also found that children's sensitivity to constraints was enhanced in the Not Stable condition regardless of whether the constraint was probabilistic or deterministic. We discuss implications for children's sensitivity to real‐world constraints. Research HighlightsThis research addresses the apparent contradiction that children are sensitive to constraints in experimental paradigms but are ofteninsensitiveto constraints in the real world. One explanation for this discrepancy is that constraints in the real world tend to be stable over time and may lose their salience. When probabilistic constraints (i.e., when a second option is available but hard to access) are stable, children become de‐sensitized to constraints across trials.First observing contexts with greater choice increases children's sensitivity to both probabilistic and deterministic constraints.more » « less

This dataset are produced by a manuscript (Biodegradation of Ancient Organic Carbon Fuels Seabed Methane Emission at the Arctic Continental Shelves) to be submitted to the Journal of Geophysical Research - Global Biogeochemical Cycles. I The file "MethaneEmission_Permafrost" contains the predicted temperature, pressure, pore water salinity, ice stable zone, methane hydrate stable zone, ice saturation, methane hydrate saturation, free methane gas saturation, labile organic carbon content, stable organic carbon content, and methanogenesis rate from seafloor to 1200 m depth from 18,000 years before present to 2,000 years after present for 8 different simulation scenarios. The file "Seabed_Methane_Flux" contains the predicted seabed methane emission rate from 18,000 years before present to 2,000 years after present for 8 different simulation scenarios. Detailed information about the model could be found in the paper Biodegradation of Ancient Organic Carbon Fuels Seabed Methane Emission at the Arctic Continental Shelves.more » « less

Becker, Daniel (Ed.)Stable isotope data have made pivotal contributions to nearly every discipline of the physical and natural sciences. As the generation and application of stable isotope data continues to grow exponentially, so does the need for a unifying data repository to improve accessibility and promote collaborative engagement. This paper provides an overview of the design, development, and implementation of IsoBank (www.isobank.org), a community-driven initiative to create an open-access repository for stable isotope data implemented online in 2021. A central goal of IsoBank is to provide a web-accessible database supporting interdisciplinary stable isotope research and educational opportunities. To achieve this goal, we convened a multi-disciplinary group of over 40 analytical experts, stable isotope researchers, database managers, and web developers to collaboratively design the database. This paper outlines the main features of IsoBank and provides a focused description of the core metadata structure. We present plans for future database and tool development and engagement across the scientific community. These efforts will help facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration among the many users of stable isotopic data while also offering useful data resources and standardization of metadata reporting across eco-geoinformatics landscapes.more » « less
