The NSF-sponsored Undergraduate ALFALFA (Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA) Team (UAT) is a collaborative, multifaceted program of faculty and undergraduate research at a consortium of 23 diverse U.S. institutions, founded to promote undergraduate research and faculty development within the extragalactic ALFALFA HI blind survey project and follow-up programs. The objective of the UAT is to provide opportunities for faculty and students from a wide range of public and private colleges and especially those with small astronomy programs to learn how science is accomplished in a large collaboration while contributing to the scientific goals of a legacy radio astronomy survey. Partnering with Arecibo and Green Bank Observatories, the UAT has worked with 334 undergraduates (40% women) and 32 (48% women) faculty in the past 10 years, offering annual workshops, observing runs, and research projects (academic year and sumer), and presentation of results at national meetings such as the AAS (at AAS233: Burhenne et al., Cane et al., Gault et al., Hetrick et al., Jong et al., Kumagai et al., Luna et al., Olivieri Villalvazo et al., Page et al., Poulin et al., Rea et al., Rehmn et al., Reiter et al., ). In this presentation, we summarize the UAT program and outcomes, highlight several current Team research efforts, including multiwavelength followup observations of ALFALFA sources, the UAT Collaborative Groups Project, and the Arecibo Pisces-Perseus Supercluster Survey (APPSS), and suggest how our model could be applied to other legacy projects. This work has been supported by NSF grants AST-0724918/0902211, AST-075267/0903394, AST-0725380, AST-1211005, AST-1211683, and AST-1637339.more » « less

Earliest snowmelt estimation dates calculated for the year 2003 are provided using sea ice brightness temperatures from AMSR-E (Cavalieri et al., 2014) and DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS (Meier et al., 2019), as well as simulated sea ice brightness temperatures from the CESM2 JRA-55 (Danabasoglu et al., 2020; Kobayashi et al., 2015; Tsujino et al., 2018), which were created using the Arctic Ocean Observation Operator (ARC3O; Burgard et al, 2020a,b). Scripts and README files are provided for preparing the model data to act as input to ARC3O.more » « less

Bacterial Metagenome Assembled Genomes (bMAGs) from stony coral metagenomes. Bins from MaxBin2 v2.2.7 (Wu et al., 2015), MetaBat2 v2.15 (Kang et al., 2019), and CONCOCT v1.1.0 (Alneberg et al., 2014) were consolidated and improved with the metaWRAP v1.2.1 (Uritskiy et al., 2018). Bins were then quality filtered to ≥50% completion and ≤10% contamination with CheckM2 v1.0.2 (Chklovski et al., 2023). This dataset has been dereplicated using fastANI (--similarity-threshold 0.95).more » « less

Abscisic acid (ABA) is an essential plant hormone that regulates multiple aspects of plant development and numerous abiotic stress responses (Cutler et al., 2010; Waadt et al., 2022). In fact, at the heart of plants’ responses to stresses such as salinity, drought, and hypertonic conditions, among others, is this phytohormone (Cutler et al., 2010; Waadt et al., 2022). Interestingly, stress-triggered and developmental responses to this hormone have been found to involve basic RNA metabolism components, including the two subunits of the nuclear cap-binding complex, ABA HYPERSENSITIVE1 (ABH1/CBP80) and CBP20 (Hugouvieux et al., 2001). Additionally, multiple lines of evidence have linked small RNA (smRNA)-mediated RNA silencing to ABA responses (Gregory et al., 2008; Laubinger et al., 2008). A new study by Yan et al. (2025) has provided new insights regarding how RNA degradation and silencing factors modulate smRNA biogenesis from NITRATE REDUCTASE1/2 transcripts to affect ABA-regulated abiotic stress responses.more » « less
