  1. Abstract The ratio of prompt production cross-sections ofψ(2S) andJ/ψmesons in their dimuon final state is measured as a function of centrality, using data collected by the LHCb detector in PbPb collisions at$$ \sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ sNN = 5.02 TeV, for the first time in the forward rapidity region. The measured ratio shows no dependence on the collision centrality, and is compared to the latest theory predictions and to the recent measurements in literature.

  2. Abstract Measurements ofCPobservables and the CKM angleγare performed inB±→DK*(892)±decays, whereDrepresents a superposition ofD0and$$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ D¯0 states, using the LHCb dataset collected during Run 1 (2011–2012) and Run 2 (2015–2018). A study of this channel is presented with theDmeson reconstructed in two-body final statesK±π,K+Kandπ+π; four-body final statesK±ππ±πandπ+ππ+π; and three-body final states$$ {K}_{\textrm{S}}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-} $$ KS0π+π and$$ {K}_{\textrm{S}}^0{K}^{+}{K}^{-} $$ KS0K+K . This analysis includes the first observation of the suppressedB±→[π±K]DKandB±→[π±Kπ±π]DKdecays. The combined result givesγ= (63±13)°.

  3. Abstract Charged-particle trajectories are usually reconstructed with the LHCb detector using combined information from the tracking devices placed upstream and downstream of the 4 T m dipole magnet. Trajectories reconstructed using only information from the tracker downstream of the dipole magnet, which are referred to as T tracks, have not been used for physics analysis to date. The challenges of the reconstruction of long-lived particles with T tracks for physics use are discussed and solutions are proposed. The feasibility and the tracking performance are studied using samples of long-lived$${\Lambda }$$ Λ and$$K_S^0$$ KS0 hadrons decaying between 6.0 and 7.6 m downstream of the proton–proton collision point, thereby traversing most of the magnetic field region and providing maximal sensitivity to magnetic and electric dipole moments. The reconstruction can be expanded upstream to about 2.5 m for use in direct searches of exotic long-lived particles. The data used in this analysis have been recorded between 2015 and 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6 $$\hbox {fb}^{-1}$$ fb-1 . The results obtained demonstrate the possibility to further extend the decay volume and the physics reach of the LHCb experiment.

  4. Abstract A search for the very rare$$B^{*0}\rightarrow \mu ^+\mu ^-$$ B 0 μ+μ- and$$B_{s}^{*0}\rightarrow \mu ^+\mu ^-$$ Bs 0 μ+μ- decays is conducted by analysing the$$B_c^+\rightarrow \pi ^+\mu ^+\mu ^-$$ Bc+π+μ+μ- process. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and 2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9$$\text {\,fb}^{-1}$$ \,fb-1 . The signal signatures correspond to simultaneous peaks in the$$\mu ^+\mu ^-$$ μ+μ- and$$\pi ^+\mu ^+\mu ^-$$ π+μ+μ- invariant masses. No evidence for an excess of events over background is observed for either signal decay mode. Upper limits at the$$90\%$$ 90% confidence level are set on the branching fractions relative to that for$$B_c^+\rightarrow J\hspace{-1.66656pt}/\hspace{-1.111pt}\psi \pi ^+$$ Bc+J/ψπ+ decays,$$\begin{aligned} \mathcal{R}_{B^{*0}(\mu ^+\mu ^-)\pi ^+/J\hspace{-1.66656pt}/\hspace{-1.111pt}\psi \pi ^+}&< 3.8\times 10^{-5}\ \text { and }\\ \mathcal{R}_{B_{s}^{*0}(\mu ^+\mu ^-)\pi ^+/J\hspace{-1.66656pt}/\hspace{-1.111pt}\psi \pi ^+}&< 5.0\times 10^{-5}. \end{aligned}$$ R B 0 (μ+μ-)π+/J/ψπ+ <3.8×10-5and R Bs 0 (μ+μ-)π+/J/ψπ+ <5.0×10-5.

  5. Abstract Usingppcollision data at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV, recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb−1, the forward-backward asymmetry in thepp→Z/γ*→μ+μprocess is measured. The measurement is carried out in ten intervals of the difference between the muon pseudorapidities, within a fiducial region covering dimuon masses between 66 and 116 GeV, muon pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.5 and muon transverse momenta above 20 GeV. These forward-backward asymmetries are compared with predictions, at next-to-leading order in the strong and electroweak couplings. The measured effective leptonic weak mixing angle is$$ {\sin}^2{\theta}_{\textrm{eff}}^{\ell }=0.23147\pm 0.00044\pm 0.00005\pm 0.00023, $$ sin2θeff=0.23147±0.00044±0.00005±0.00023, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second arises from systematic uncertainties associated with the asymmetry measurement, and the third arises from uncertainties in the fit model used to extract$$ {\sin}^2{\theta}_{\textrm{eff}}^{\ell } $$ sin2θeff from the asymmetry measurement. This result is based on an arithmetic average of results using the CT18, MSHT20, and NNPDF31 parameterisations of the proton internal structure, and is consistent with previous measurements and with predictions from the global electroweak fit.

  6. A comprehensive study of the angular distributions in the bottom-baryon decays Λb0Λc+h(h=π,K) , followed by Λc+Λh+ with Λpπ or Λc+pKS0 decays, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9fb1 collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity ( CP ) asymmetries are measured, with no significant CP violation observed. For the first time, the Λb0Λc+h decay parameters are measured. The most precise measurements of the decay parameters α , β , and γ are obtained for Λc+ decays and an independent measurement of the decay parameters for the strange-baryon Λ decay is provided. The results deepen our understanding of weak decay dynamics in baryon decays. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2024CERN

  7. A search for violation of the charge-parity ( CP ) symmetry in the D+KK+π+ decay is presented, with proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4fb1 , collected at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the LHCb detector. A novel model-independent technique is used to compare the D+ and D phase-space distributions, with instrumental asymmetries subtracted using the Ds+KK+π+ decay as a control channel. The p value for the hypothesis of CP conservation is 8.1%. The CP asymmetry observables A CP|S ϕπ+ =(0.95±0.4 3stat ±0.2 6syst )×103 and A CP|S K¯ *0 K+ =(0.26±0.5 6stat ±0.1 8syst )×103 are also measured. These results show no evidence of CP violation and represent the most sensitive search performed through the phase space of a multibody decay. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2024CERN

  8. Abstract The decays of the χb1(1P), χb2(1P), χb1(2P) and χb2(2P) mesons into the Υ(1S)μ+μfinal state are observed with a high significance using proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. The newly observed decays together with the Υ(2S) → Υ(1S)π+πand Υ(3S) → Υ(2S)π+πdecay modes are used for precision measurements of the mass and mass splittings for the hidden-beauty states.

  9. Abstract A comprehensive study of the local and nonlocal amplitudes contributing to the decayB0→K*0(→K+π+μis performed by analysing the phase-space distribution of the decay products. The analysis is based onppcollision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.4 fb−1collected by the LHCb experiment. This measurement employs for the first time a model of both one-particle and two-particle nonlocal amplitudes, and utilises the complete dimuon mass spectrum without any veto regions around the narrow charmonium resonances. In this way it is possible to explicitly isolate the local and nonlocal contributions and capture the interference between them. The results show that interference with nonlocal contributions, although larger than predicted, only has a minor impact on the Wilson Coefficients determined from the fit to the data. For the local contributions, the Wilson Coefficient$$ {\mathcal{C}}_9 $$ C9 , responsible for vector dimuon currents, exhibits a 2.1σdeviation from the Standard Model expectation. The Wilson Coefficients$$ {\mathcal{C}}_{10} $$ C10 ,$$ {\mathcal{C}}_9^{\prime } $$ C9 and$$ {\mathcal{C}}_{10}^{\prime } $$ C10 are all in better agreement than$$ {\mathcal{C}}_9 $$ C9 with the Standard Model and the global significance is at the level of 1.5σ. The model used also accounts for nonlocal contributions fromB0→ K*0+τ→ μ+μ] rescattering, resulting in the first direct measurement of thebsττvector effective-coupling$$ {\mathcal{C}}_{9\tau } $$ C9τ
