Abstract The multihadron decays $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 → D + pπ−π− and $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 → D * + pπ−π− are observed in data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb − 1 , collected in proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV by the LHCb detector. Using the decay $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 → $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+} $$ Λ c + π + π − π − as a normalisation channel, the ratio of branching fractions is measured to be $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to {D}^{+}p{\pi}^{-}{\pi}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to {\Lambda}_c^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}{\pi}^{-}\right)}\times \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{+}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^0\to {pK}^{-}{\pi}^{-}\right)}=\left(5.35\pm 0.21\pm 0.16\right)\%, $$ B Λ b 0 → D + p π − π − B Λ b 0 → Λ c 0 π + π − π − × B D + → K − π + π + B Λ c 0 → pK − π − = 5.35 ± 0.21 ± 0.16 % , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The ratio of branching fractions for the $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 → D *+ pπ − π − and $$ {\Lambda}_b^0 $$ Λ b 0 → D + pπ − π − decays is found to be $$ \frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to {D}^{\ast +}p{\pi}^{-}{\pi}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_b^0\to {D}^{+}p{\pi}^{-}{\pi}^{-}\right)}\times \left(\mathcal{B}\left({D}^{\ast +}\to {D}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)+\mathcal{B}\left({D}^{\ast +}\to {D}^{+}\gamma \right)\right)=\left(61.3\pm 4.3\pm 4.0\right)\%. $$ B Λ b 0 → D ∗ + p π − π − B Λ b 0 → D + p π − π − × B D ∗ + → D + π 0 + B D ∗ + → D + γ = 61.3 ± 4.3 ± 4.0 % .

Isothermic constrained Willmore tori in 3-space
Abstract We show that the homogeneous and the 2-lobe Delaunay tori in the 3-sphere provide the only isothermic constrained Willmore tori in 3-space with Willmore energy below $$8\pi $$ 8 π . In particular, every constrained Willmore torus with Willmore energy below $$8\pi $$ 8 π and non-rectangular conformal class is non-degenerated.

As the lightest meson, pion offers unique opportunities for measuring parameters and testing limits of the Standard Model (SM). The PiBeta experiment, carried out at PSI, focused on SM tests accessible through the pion beta, \pi^+ \to \pi^0e^+\nu_e(\gamma) π + → π 0 e + ν e ( γ ) , and electronic radiative, \pi^+ \to e^+\nu_e\gamma π + → e + ν e γ , decay channels. We review the PiBeta experiment, and update the pion beta decay branching ratio B^{\text{exp}}_{\pi\beta}=1.038(6)_{\text{tot}}\times10^{-8} B π β exp = 1.038 ( 6 ) tot × 10 − 8 , along with the corresponding derived value of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element V_{ud} = 0.9738(28) V u d = 0.9738 ( 28 ) .more » « less

null (Ed.)Abstract In light of recent experimental results, we revisit the dispersive analysis of the $$\omega \rightarrow 3\pi $$ ω → 3 π decay amplitude and of the $$\omega \pi ^0$$ ω π 0 transition form factor. Within the framework of the Khuri–Treiman equations, we show that the $$\omega \rightarrow 3\pi $$ ω → 3 π Dalitz-plot parameters obtained with a once-subtracted amplitude are in agreement with the latest experimental determination by BESIII. Furthermore, we show that at low energies the $$\omega \pi ^0$$ ω π 0 transition form factor obtained from our determination of the $$\omega \rightarrow 3\pi $$ ω → 3 π amplitude is consistent with the data from MAMI and NA60 experiments.more » « less

null (Ed.)The unsigned p-Willmore functional introduced in the work of Mondino [2011] generalizes important geometric functionals, which measure the area and Willmore energy of immersed surfaces. Presently, techniques from the work of Dziuk [2008] are adapted to compute the first variation of this functional as a weak-form system of equations, which are subsequently used to develop a model for the p-Willmore flow of closed surfaces in R 3 . This model is amenable to constraints on surface area and enclosed volume and is shown to decrease the p-Willmore energy monotonically. In addition, a penalty-based regularization procedure is formulated to prevent artificial mesh degeneration along the flow; inspired by a conformality condition derived in the work of Kamberov et al. [1996], this procedure encourages angle-preservation in a closed and oriented surface immersion as it evolves. Following this, a finite-element discretization of both procedures is discussed, an algorithm for running the flow is given, and an application to mesh editing is presented.more » « less

null (Ed.)Abstract Let $$\Delta $$ Δ be a hyperbolic triangle with a fixed area $$\varphi $$ φ . We prove that for all but countably many $$\varphi $$ φ , generic choices of $$\Delta $$ Δ have the property that the group generated by the $$\pi $$ π -rotations about the midpoints of the sides of the triangle admits no nontrivial relations. By contrast, we show for all $$\varphi \in (0,\pi ){\setminus }\mathbb {Q}\pi $$ φ ∈ ( 0 , π ) \ Q π , a dense set of triangles does afford nontrivial relations, which in the generic case map to hyperbolic translations. To establish this fact, we study the deformation space $$\mathfrak {C}_\theta $$ C θ of singular hyperbolic metrics on a torus with a single cone point of angle $$\theta =2(\pi -\varphi )$$ θ = 2 ( π - φ ) , and answer an analogous question for the holonomy map $$\rho _\xi $$ ρ ξ of such a hyperbolic structure $$\xi $$ ξ . In an appendix by Gao, concrete examples of $$\theta $$ θ and $$\xi \in \mathfrak {C}_\theta $$ ξ ∈ C θ are given where the image of each $$\rho _\xi $$ ρ ξ is finitely presented, non-free and torsion-free; in fact, those images will be isomorphic to the fundamental groups of closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds.more » « less
