A search for supersymmetry involving the pair production of gluinos decaying via off-shell third-generation squarks into the lightest neutralino
A method for modelling the prompt production of molecular states using the hadronic rescattering framework of the general-purpose Pythia event generator is introduced. Production cross sections of possible exotic hadronic molecules via hadronic rescattering at the LHC are calculated for the

Abstract is reported. It exploits LHC proton–proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy$$(\tilde{\chi }^0_1)$$ TeV with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$$\sqrt{s} = 13$$ collected with the ATLAS detector from 2015 to 2018. The search uses events containing large missing transverse momentum, up to one electron or muon, and several energetic jets, at least three of which must be identified as containing$$^{-1}$$ b -hadrons. Both a simple kinematic event selection and an event selection based upon a deep neural-network are used. No significant excess above the predicted background is found. In simplified models involving the pair production of gluinos that decay via off-shell top (bottom) squarks, gluino masses less than 2.44 TeV (2.35 TeV) are excluded at 95% CL for a massless Limits are also set on the gluino mass in models with variable branching ratios for gluino decays to$$\tilde{\chi }^0_1.$$ $$b\bar{b}\tilde{\chi }^0_1,$$ and$$t\bar{t}\tilde{\chi }^0_1$$ $$t\bar{b}\tilde{\chi }^-_1/\bar{t}b\tilde{\chi }^+_1.$$ -
Abstract We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the form factors for the decay
at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC ensembles with$$B\rightarrow D^*\ell \nu $$ flavors of asqtad sea quarks, with a strange quark mass close to its physical mass. The lattice spacings range from$$N_f=2+1$$ fm down to 0.045 fm, while the ratio between the light- and the strange-quark masses ranges from 0.05 to 0.4. The valence$$a\approx 0.15$$ b andc quarks are treated using the Wilson-clover action with the Fermilab interpretation, whereas the light sector employs asqtad staggered fermions. We extrapolate our results to the physical point in the continuum limit using rooted staggered heavy-light meson chiral perturbation theory. Then we apply a model-independent parametrization to extend the form factors to the full kinematic range. With this parametrization we perform a joint lattice-QCD/experiment fit using several experimental datasets to determine the CKM matrix element . We obtain$$|V_{cb}|$$ . The first error is theoretical, the second comes from experiment and the last one includes electromagnetic and electroweak uncertainties, with an overall$$\left| V_{cb}\right| = (38.40 \pm 0.68_{\text {th}} \pm 0.34_{\text {exp}} \pm 0.18_{\text {EM}})\times 10^{-3}$$ , which illustrates the tensions between the experimental data sets, and between theory and experiment. This result is in agreement with previous exclusive determinations, but the tension with the inclusive determination remains. Finally, we integrate the differential decay rate obtained solely from lattice data to predict$$\chi ^2\text {/dof} = 126/84$$ , which confirms the current tension between theory and experiment.$$R(D^*) = 0.265 \pm 0.013$$ -
A bstract The measurements of the inclusive and differential fiducial cross sections of the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of photons are presented. The analysis is performed using proton-proton collisions data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb
− 1. The inclusive fiducial cross section is measured to be fb, in agreement with the standard model expectation of 75$$ {\sigma}_{\textrm{fid}}={73.4}_{-5.3}^{+5.4}{\left(\textrm{stat}\right)}_{-2.2}^{+2.4}\left(\textrm{syst}\right) $$ . 4 ± 4. 1 fb. The measurements are also performed in fiducial regions targeting different production modes and as function of several observables describing the diphoton system, the number of additional jets present in the event, and other kinematic observables. Two double differential measurements are performed. No significant deviations from the standard model expectations are observed. -
Abstract The double differential cross sections of the Drell–Yan lepton pair (
, dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass$$\ell ^+\ell ^-$$ , transverse momentum$$m_{\ell \ell }$$ , and$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ . The$$\varphi ^{*}_{\eta }$$ observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with$$\varphi ^{*}_{\eta }$$ , is used to probe the low-$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ region in a complementary way. Dilepton masses up to 1$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ are investigated. Additionally, a measurement is performed requiring at least one jet in the final state. To benefit from partial cancellation of the systematic uncertainty, the ratios of the differential cross sections for various$$\,\text {Te\hspace{-.08em}V}$$ ranges to those in the Z mass peak interval are presented. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.3$$m_{\ell \ell }$$ of proton–proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13$$\,\text {fb}^{-1}$$ . Measurements are compared with predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics, including soft-gluon resummation.$$\,\text {Te\hspace{-.08em}V}$$ -
Abstract The Coulomb-free1
S 0proton-proton (p -p ) scattering length relies heavily on numerous and distinct theoretical techniques to remove the Coulomb contribution. Here, it has been determined from the half-off-the-energy-shellp -p scattering cross section measured at center-of-mass energies below 1 MeV using the quasi-freep +d →p +p +n reaction. A Bayesian data-fitting approach using the expression of the s-wave nucleon-nucleon scattering cross section returned ap -p scattering length fm and effective range$${a}_{pp}=-18.1{7}_{-0.58}^{+0.52}{| }_{stat}\pm 0.0{1}_{syst}$$ r 0 = 2.80 ± 0.05s t a t ± 0.001s y s t fm. A model based on universality concepts has been developed to interpret this result. It accounts for the short-range interaction as a whole, nuclear and residual electromagnetic, according to what the s-wave phase-shiftδ does in the description of low-energy nucleon-nucleon scattering data. We conclude that our parameters are representative of the short-range physics and propose to assess the charge symmetry breaking of the short-range interaction instead of just the nuclear interaction. This is consistent with the current understanding that the charge dependence of nuclear forces is due to different masses of up-down quarks and their electromagnetic interactions. This achievement suggests that these properties have a lesser than expected impact in the context of the charge symmetry breaking.
