Title: On the spread of entanglement at finite cutoff
Abstract We study how entanglement spreads in the boundary duals of finite-cutoff three-dimensional theories with positive, negative and zero cosmological constant, the$$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ + Λ2two-dimensional theories. We first study the Hawking-Page transition in all three cases, and find that there is a transition in all three scenarios at the temperature where the lengths of the two cycles of the torus are the same. We then study the entanglement entropy in the thermofield double states above the Hawking-Page transition, of regions symmetrically placed on the two boundaries. We consider the case where the region is one interval on each side, and the case where it is two intervals on each side. We give an entanglement tsunami interpretation of the time-evolution of the entanglement entropies.  more » « less

  1. Abstract The charge-parity (CP) structure of the Yukawa interaction between the Higgs (H) boson and the top quark is measured in a data sample enriched in the t$$ \overline{\textrm{t}} $$ t ¯ H and tH associated production, using 138 fb−1of data collected in proton-proton collisions at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. The study targets events where the H boson decays via H → WW or H →ττand the top quarks decay via t → Wb: the W bosons decay either leptonically or hadronically, and final states characterized by the presence of at least two leptons are studied. Machine learning techniques are applied to these final states to enhance the separation ofCP-even fromCP-odd scenarios. Two-dimensional confidence regions are set onκtand$$ \overset{\sim }{\kappa } $$ κ ~ t, which are respectively defined as theCP-even andCP-odd top-Higgs Yukawa coupling modifiers. No significant fractionalCP-odd contributions, parameterized by the quantity|$$ {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} $$ f CP Htt |are observed; the parameter is determined to be|$$ {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} $$ f CP Htt |= 0.59 with an interval of (0.24,0.81) at 68% confidence level. The results are combined with previous results covering the H→ZZ and H→ γγdecay modes, yielding two- and one-dimensional confidence regions onκtand$$ \overset{\sim }{\kappa } $$ κ ~ t, while|$$ {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} $$ f CP Htt |is determined to be|$$ {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} $$ f CP Htt |= 0.28 with an interval of|$$ {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} $$ f CP Htt | <0.55 at 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard modelCP-even prediction of|$$ {f}_{CP}^{\textrm{Htt}} $$ f CP Htt |= 0.

  2. Abstract In this note, we resolve an apparent obstacle to string/M theory realizations of dS observer patch holography, finding a new role for averaging in quantum gravity. The solvable$$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ (+Λ2) deformation recently provided a detailed microstate count of thedS3cosmic horizon, reproducing the refined Gibbons-Hawking entropy computed by Anninos et al. along with the correct radial bulk geometry. On the gravity side, the deformation brings in the boundary to just outside a black hole horizon, where it is indistinguishable from the dS cosmic horizon, enabling a continuous passage to a bounded patch of dS. In string/M theory, the relationship between AdS/CFT and dS involves uplifts that change the internal topology, e.g. replacing an internal sphere$$ \mathbbm{S} $$ S with an internal hyperbolic spaceℍ(and incorporating varying warp and conformal factors). We connect these two approaches, noting that the differences in the extra dimensions between AdS black hole and dS solutions are washed out by internal averaging in the presence of a timelike boundary skirting the horizon. This helps to motivate a detailed investigation into the possibility of such timelike boundaries in (A)dS solutions of string/M theory, and we take initial steps toward suitable generalizations of Liouville walls as one approach.

  3. Abstract Recent research has leveraged the tractability of$$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ style deformations to formulate timelike-bounded patches of three-dimensional bulk spacetimes includingdS3. This proceeds by breaking the problem into two parts: a solvable theory that captures the most entropic energy bands, and a tuning algorithm to treat additional effects and fine structure. We point out that the method extends readily to higher dimensions, and in particular does not require factorization of the fullT2operator (the higher dimensional analogue of$$ T\overline{T} $$ T T ¯ defined in [1]). Focusing ondS4, we first define a solvable theory at finiteNvia a restrictedT2deformation of theCFT3onS2×ℝ, in whichTis replaced by the form it would take in symmetric homogeneous states, containing only diagonal energy densityE/Vand pressure (-dE/dV) components. This explicitly defines a finite-N solvable sector ofdS4/deformed-CFT3, capturing the radial geometry and count of the entropically dominant energy band, reproducing the Gibbons-Hawking entropy as a state count. To accurately capture local bulk excitations ofdS4including gravitons, we build a deformation algorithm in direct analogy to the case ofdS3with bulk matter recently proposed in [2]. This starts with an infinitesimal stint of the solvable deformation as a regulator. The full microscopic theory is built by adding renormalized versions ofT2and other operators at each step, defined by matching to bulk local calculations when they apply, including an uplift fromAdS4/CFT3todS4(as is available in hyperbolic compactifications of M theory). The details of the bulk-local algorithm depend on the choice of boundary conditions; we summarize the status of these in GR and beyond, illustrating our method for the case of the cylindrical Dirichlet condition which can be UV completed by our finite quantum theory.

  4. Abstract This paper presents a search for top-squark pair production in final states with a top quark, a charm quark and missing transverse momentum. The data were collected with the ATLAS detector during LHC Run 2 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of$$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV. The analysis is motivated by an extended Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model featuring a non-minimal flavour violation in the second- and third-generation squark sector. The top squark in this model has two possible decay modes, either$$ {\tilde{t}}_1\to c{\overset{\sim }{\chi}}_1^0 $$ t ~ 1 c χ ~ 1 0 or$$ {\tilde{t}}_1\to t{\overset{\sim }{\chi}}_1^0 $$ t ~ 1 t χ ~ 1 0 , where the$$ {\overset{\sim }{\chi}}_1^0 $$ χ ~ 1 0 is undetected. The analysis is optimised assuming that both of the decay modes are equally probable, leading to the most likely final state of$$ tc+{E}_T^{\textrm{miss}} $$ tc + E T miss . Good agreement is found between the Standard Model expectation and the data in the search regions. Exclusion limits at 95% CL are obtained in the$$ m\left({\tilde{t}}_1\right) $$ m t ~ 1 vs.$$ m\left({\overset{\sim }{\chi}}_1^0\right) $$ m χ ~ 1 0 plane and, in addition, limits on the branching ratio of the$$ {\tilde{t}}_1\to t{\overset{\sim }{\chi}}_1^0 $$ t ~ 1 t χ ~ 1 0 decay as a function ofm($$ {\tilde{t}}_1 $$ t ~ 1 ) are also produced. Top-squark masses of up to 800 GeV are excluded for scenarios with light neutralinos, and top-squark masses up to 600 GeV are excluded in scenarios where the neutralino and the top squark are almost mass degenerate.

  5. Abstract We develop Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) predictions ofσ($$ \mathcal{GG} $$ GG →h), Γ(h→$$ \mathcal{GG} $$ GG ), Γ(h→$$ \mathcal{AA} $$ AA ) to incorporate full two loop Standard Model results at the amplitude level, in conjunction with dimension eight SMEFT corrections. We simultaneously report consistent Γ(h→$$ \overline{\Psi}\Psi $$ Ψ ¯ Ψ ) results including leading QCD corrections and dimension eight SMEFT corrections. This extends the predictions of the former processes Γ, σto a full set of corrections at$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\overline{v}}_T^2/{\varLambda}^2{\left(16{\pi}^2\right)}^2\right) $$ O v ¯ T 2 / Λ 2 16 π 2 2 and$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\overline{v}}_T^4/{\Lambda}^4\right) $$ O v ¯ T 4 / Λ 4 , where$$ {\overline{v}}_T $$ v ¯ T is the electroweak scale vacuum expectation value and Λ is the cut off scale of the SMEFT. Throughout, cross consistency between the operator and loop expansions is maintained by the use of the geometric SMEFT formalism. For Γ(h→$$ \overline{\Psi}\Psi $$ Ψ ¯ Ψ ), we include results at$$ \mathcal{O}\left({\overline{v}}_T^2/{\Lambda}^2\left(16{\pi}^2\right)\right) $$ O v ¯ T 2 / Λ 2 16 π 2 in the limit where subleadingmΨ→ 0 corrections are neglected. We clarify how gauge invariant SMEFT renormalization counterterms combine with the Standard Model counter terms in higher order SMEFT calculations when the Background Field Method is used. We also update the prediction of the total Higgs width in the SMEFT to consistently include some of these higher order perturbative effects.
