The search for neutrino events in correlation with gravitational wave (GW) events for three observing runs (O1, O2 and O3) from 09/2015 to 03/2020 has been performed using the Borexino data-set of the same period. We have searched for signals of neutrino-electron scattering and inverse beta-decay (IBD) within a time window of

Abstract hh ) production in association with a vector boson ( ) using 139 fb$$W\; {\text {o}r}\; Z$$ of proton–proton collision data at$$^{-1}$$ recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The search is performed in final states in which the vector boson decays leptonically ($$\sqrt{s}=13\,\text {TeV}$$ with$$W\rightarrow \ell \nu ,\, Z\rightarrow \ell \ell ,\nu \nu $$ ) and the Higgs bosons each decay into a pair of$$\ell =e, \mu $$ b -quarks. It targetsVhh signals from both non-resonanthh production, present in the Standard Model (SM), and resonanthh production, as predicted in some SM extensions. A 95% confidence-level upper limit of 183 (87) times the SM cross-section is observed (expected) for non-resonantVhh production when assuming the kinematics are as expected in the SM. Constraints are also placed on Higgs boson coupling modifiers. For the resonant search, upper limits on the production cross-sections are derived for two specific models: one is the production of a vector boson along with a neutral heavy scalar resonanceH , in the mass range 260–1000 GeV, that decays intohh , and the other is the production of a heavier neutral pseudoscalar resonanceA that decays into aZ boson andH boson, where theA boson mass is 360–800 GeV and theH boson mass is 260–400 GeV. Constraints are also derived in the parameter space of two-Higgs-doublet models. -
Abstract We present the first unquenched lattice-QCD calculation of the form factors for the decay
at nonzero recoil. Our analysis includes 15 MILC ensembles with$$B\rightarrow D^*\ell \nu $$ flavors of asqtad sea quarks, with a strange quark mass close to its physical mass. The lattice spacings range from$$N_f=2+1$$ fm down to 0.045 fm, while the ratio between the light- and the strange-quark masses ranges from 0.05 to 0.4. The valence$$a\approx 0.15$$ b andc quarks are treated using the Wilson-clover action with the Fermilab interpretation, whereas the light sector employs asqtad staggered fermions. We extrapolate our results to the physical point in the continuum limit using rooted staggered heavy-light meson chiral perturbation theory. Then we apply a model-independent parametrization to extend the form factors to the full kinematic range. With this parametrization we perform a joint lattice-QCD/experiment fit using several experimental datasets to determine the CKM matrix element . We obtain$$|V_{cb}|$$ . The first error is theoretical, the second comes from experiment and the last one includes electromagnetic and electroweak uncertainties, with an overall$$\left| V_{cb}\right| = (38.40 \pm 0.68_{\text {th}} \pm 0.34_{\text {exp}} \pm 0.18_{\text {EM}})\times 10^{-3}$$ , which illustrates the tensions between the experimental data sets, and between theory and experiment. This result is in agreement with previous exclusive determinations, but the tension with the inclusive determination remains. Finally, we integrate the differential decay rate obtained solely from lattice data to predict$$\chi ^2\text {/dof} = 126/84$$ , which confirms the current tension between theory and experiment.$$R(D^*) = 0.265 \pm 0.013$$ -
Abstract Hemiwicking is the phenomena where a liquid wets a textured surface beyond its intrinsic wetting length due to capillary action and imbibition. In this work, we derive a simple analytical model for hemiwicking in micropillar arrays. The model is based on the combined effects of capillary action dictated by interfacial and intermolecular pressures gradients within the curved liquid meniscus and fluid drag from the pillars at ultra-low Reynolds numbers
. Fluid drag is conceptualized via a critical Reynolds number:$${\boldsymbol{(}}{{\bf{10}}}^{{\boldsymbol{-}}{\bf{7}}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{\bf{Re}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{{\bf{10}}}^{{\boldsymbol{-}}{\bf{3}}}{\boldsymbol{)}}$$ , where$${\bf{Re}}{\boldsymbol{=}}\frac{{{\bf{v}}}_{{\bf{0}}}{{\bf{x}}}_{{\bf{0}}}}{{\boldsymbol{\nu }}}$$ v 0corresponds to the maximum wetting speed on a flat, dry surface andx 0is the extension length of the liquid meniscus that drives the bulk fluid toward the adsorbed thin-film region. The model is validated with wicking experiments on different hemiwicking surfaces in conjunction withv 0andx 0measurements using Water , viscous FC-70$${\boldsymbol{(}}{{\bf{v}}}_{{\bf{0}}}{\boldsymbol{\approx }}{\bf{2}}\,{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{/}}{\bf{s}}{\boldsymbol{,}}\,{\bf{25}}\,{\boldsymbol{\mu }}{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{{\bf{x}}}_{{\bf{0}}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{\bf{28}}\,{\boldsymbol{\mu }}{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{)}}$$ and lower viscosity Ethanol$${\boldsymbol{(}}{{\boldsymbol{v}}}_{{\bf{0}}}{\boldsymbol{\approx }}{\bf{0.3}}\,{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{/}}{\bf{s}}{\boldsymbol{,}}\,{\bf{18.6}}\,{\boldsymbol{\mu }}{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{{\boldsymbol{x}}}_{{\bf{0}}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{\bf{38.6}}\,{\boldsymbol{\mu }}{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{)}}$$ .$${\boldsymbol{(}}{{\boldsymbol{v}}}_{{\bf{0}}}{\boldsymbol{\approx }}{\bf{1.2}}\,{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{/}}{\bf{s}}{\boldsymbol{,}}\,{\bf{11.8}}\,{\boldsymbol{\mu }}{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{{\bf{x}}}_{{\bf{0}}}{\boldsymbol{\lesssim }}{\bf{33.3}}\,{\boldsymbol{\mu }}{\bf{m}}{\boldsymbol{)}}$$ -
Abstract The double differential cross sections of the Drell–Yan lepton pair (
, dielectron or dimuon) production are measured as functions of the invariant mass$$\ell ^+\ell ^-$$ , transverse momentum$$m_{\ell \ell }$$ , and$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ . The$$\varphi ^{*}_{\eta }$$ observable, derived from angular measurements of the leptons and highly correlated with$$\varphi ^{*}_{\eta }$$ , is used to probe the low-$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ region in a complementary way. Dilepton masses up to 1$$p_{\textrm{T}} (\ell \ell )$$ are investigated. Additionally, a measurement is performed requiring at least one jet in the final state. To benefit from partial cancellation of the systematic uncertainty, the ratios of the differential cross sections for various$$\,\text {Te\hspace{-.08em}V}$$ ranges to those in the Z mass peak interval are presented. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.3$$m_{\ell \ell }$$ of proton–proton collisions recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13$$\,\text {fb}^{-1}$$ . Measurements are compared with predictions based on perturbative quantum chromodynamics, including soft-gluon resummation.$$\,\text {Te\hspace{-.08em}V}$$ -
Abstract Let
be a positive map from the$$\phi $$ matrices$$n\times n$$ to the$$\mathcal {M}_n$$ matrices$$m\times m$$ . It is known that$$\mathcal {M}_m$$ is 2-positive if and only if for all$$\phi $$ and all strictly positive$$K\in \mathcal {M}_n$$ ,$$X\in \mathcal {M}_n$$ . This inequality is not generally true if$$\phi (K^*X^{-1}K) \geqslant \phi (K)^*\phi (X)^{-1}\phi (K)$$ is merely a Schwarz map. We show that the corresponding tracial inequality$$\phi $$ holds for a wider class of positive maps that is specified here. We also comment on the connections of this inequality with various monotonicity statements that have found wide use in mathematical physics, and apply it, and a close relative, to obtain some new, definitive results.$${{\,\textrm{Tr}\,}}[\phi (K^*X^{-1}K)] \geqslant {{\,\textrm{Tr}\,}}[\phi (K)^*\phi (X)^{-1}\phi (K)]$$
