Title: Integrability of SLE via conformal welding of random surfaces
Abstract We demonstrate how to obtain integrability results for the Schramm‐Loewner evolution (SLE) from Liouville conformal field theory (LCFT) and the mating‐of‐trees framework for Liouville quantum gravity (LQG). In particular, we prove an exact formula for the law of a conformal derivative of a classical variant of SLE called . Our proof is built on two connections between SLE, LCFT, and mating‐of‐trees. Firstly, LCFT and mating‐of‐trees provide equivalent but complementary methods to describe natural random surfaces in LQG. Using a novel tool that we call theuniform embeddingof an LQG surface, we extend earlier equivalence results by allowing fewer marked points and more generic singularities. Secondly, the conformal welding of these random surfaces produces SLE curves as their interfaces. In particular, we rely on the conformal welding results proved in our companion paper Ang, Holden and Sun (2023). Our paper is an essential part of a program proving integrability results for SLE, LCFT, and mating‐of‐trees based on these two connections.  more » « less

Abstract For $$\gamma \in (0,2)$$ γ ∈ ( 0 , 2 ) , we define a weak $$\gamma $$ γ - Liouville quantum gravity ( LQG ) metric to be a function $$h\mapsto D_h$$ h ↦ D h which takes in an instance of the planar Gaussian free field and outputs a metric on the plane satisfying a certain list of natural axioms. We show that these axioms are satisfied for any subsequential limits of Liouville first passage percolation. Such subsequential limits were proven to exist by Ding et al. (Tightness of Liouville first passage percolation for $$\gamma \in (0,2)$$ γ ∈ ( 0 , 2 ) , 2019. ArXiv e-prints, arXiv:1904.08021 ). It is also known that these axioms are satisfied for the $$\sqrt{8/3}$$ 8 / 3 -LQG metric constructed by Miller and Sheffield (2013–2016). For any weak $$\gamma $$ γ -LQG metric, we obtain moment bounds for diameters of sets as well as point-to-point, set-to-set, and point-to-set distances. We also show that any such metric is locally bi-Hölder continuous with respect to the Euclidean metric and compute the optimal Hölder exponents in both directions. Finally, we show that LQG geodesics cannot spend a long time near a straight line or the boundary of a metric ball. These results are used in subsequent work by Gwynne and Miller which proves that the weak $$\gamma $$ γ -LQG metric is unique for each $$\gamma \in (0,2)$$ γ ∈ ( 0 , 2 ) , which in turn gives the uniqueness of the subsequential limit of Liouville first passage percolation. However, most of our results are new even in the special case when $$\gamma =\sqrt{8/3}$$ γ = 8 / 3 .

  2. Abstract We combine supersymmetric localization with the numerical conformal bootstrap to bound the scaling dimension and OPE coefficient of the lowest-dimension unprotected operator in$$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 4 SU(N) super-Yang-Mills theory for a wide range ofNand Yang-Mills couplingsgYM. We find that our bounds are approximately saturated by weak coupling results at smallgYM. Furthermore, at largeNour bounds interpolate between integrability results for the Konishi operator at smallgYMand strong-coupling results, including the first few stringy corrections, for the lowest-dimension double-trace operator at largegYM. In particular, our scaling dimension bounds describe the level splitting between the single- and double-trace operators at intermediate coupling.

  3. Abstract In this paper we introduce the stochastic Ricci flow (SRF) in two spatial dimensions. The flow is symmetric with respect to a measure induced by Liouville conformal field theory. Using the theory of Dirichlet forms, we construct a weak solution to the associated equation of the area measure on a flat torus, in the full “$L^1$ regime” $$\sigma < \sigma _{L^1}=2 \sqrt \pi $$ where $$\sigma $$ is the noise strength. We also describe the main necessary modifications needed for the SRF on general compact surfaces and list some open questions.

  4. Abstract We compute the gravitational action of a free massive Majorana fermion coupled to two-dimensional gravity on compact Riemann surfaces of arbitrary genus. The structure is similar to the case of the massive scalar. The small-mass expansion of the gravitational yields the Liouville action at zeroth order, and we can identify the Mabuchi action at first order. While the massive Majorana action is a conformal deformation of the massless Majorana CFT, we find an action different from the one given by the David-Distler-Kawai (DDK) ansatz.

  5. Abstract We study 3d quantum gravity with two asymptotically anti-de Sitter regions, in particular, using its relation with coupled Alekseev-Shatashvili theories and Liouville theory. Expressions for the Hartle-Hawking state, thermal 2n-point functions, torus wormhole correlators and Wheeler-DeWitt wavefunctions in different bases are obtained using the ZZ boundary states in Liouville theory. Exact results in 2d Jackiw-Teitelboim (JT) gravity are uplifted to 3d gravity, with two copies of Liouville theory in 3d gravity playing a similar role as Schwarzian theory in JT gravity. The connection between 3d gravity and the Liouville ZZ boundary states are manifested by viewing BTZ black holes as Maldacena-Maoz wormholes, with the two wormhole boundaries glued along the ZZ boundaries. In this work, we also study the factorization problem of the Hartle-Hawking state in 3d gravity. With the relevant defect operator that imposes the necessary topological constraint for contractibility, the trace formula in gravity is modified in computing the entanglement entropy. This trace matches with the one from von Neumann algebra considerations, further reproducing the Bekenstein-Hawking area formula from entanglement entropy. Lastly, we propose a calculation for off-shell geometrical quantities that are responsible for the ramp behavior in the late time two-point functions, which follows from the understanding of the Liouville FZZT boundary states in the context of 3d gravity, and the identification between Verlinde loop operators in Liouville theory and “baby universe” operators in 3d gravity.
