Abstract We report the first measurement of the inclusivee+e−→$$ b\overline{b} $$ →$$ {D}_s^{\pm } $$ Xande+e−→$$ b\overline{b} $$ → D0/$$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ Xcross sections in the energy range from 10.63 to 11.02 GeV. Based on these results, we determineσ(e+e−→$$ {B}_s^0{\overline{B}}_s^0 $$ X) andσ(e+e−→$$ B\overline{B} $$ X) in the same energy range. We measure the fraction of$$ {B}_s^0 $$ events at Υ(10860) to befs= ($$ {22.0}_{-2.1}^{+2.0} $$ )%. We determine also the ratio of the$$ {B}_s^0 $$ inclusive branching fractions$$ \mathcal{B} $$ ($$ {B}_s^0 $$ → D0/$$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$ X)/$$ \mathcal{B} $$ ($$ {B}_s^0 $$ →$$ {D}_s^{\pm } $$ X) = 0.416 ± 0.018 ± 0.092. The results are obtained using the data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energye+e−collider.

Two-particle angular correlations in e+e− collisions to hadronic final states in two reference coordinates at Belle
Abstract We present the analysis of two-particle angular correlations using coordinate systems defined with the conventional beam axis and the event thrust axis. We propose the latter as a good representation for the correlation structure interpretation in thee+e−collision system. Thee+e−collisions to hadronic final states at center-of-mass energies of$$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 10.52 GeV and 10.58 GeV are recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. In this paper, results on the first dataset are supplementary to the previous Belle publication [1]. At the same time, the latter is the first two-particle correlation measurement at collision energy on theΥ(4S) resonance and is sensitive to its decay products. Measurements are reported as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity. Finally, a qualitative understanding of the correlation structure is discussed using a combination of Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data.

Abstract A measurement of the top quark pole mass$$ {m}_{\textrm{t}}^{\textrm{pole}} $$ in events where a top quark-antiquark pair ($$ \textrm{t}\overline{\textrm{t}} $$ ) is produced in association with at least one additional jet ($$ \textrm{t}\overline{\textrm{t}} $$ +jet) is presented. This analysis is performed using proton-proton collision data at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb−1. Events with two opposite-sign leptons in the final state (e+e−,μ+μ−, e±μ∓) are analyzed. The reconstruction of the main observable and the event classification are optimized using multivariate analysis techniques based on machine learning. The production cross section is measured as a function of the inverse of the invariant mass of the$$ \textrm{t}\overline{\textrm{t}} $$ +jet system at the parton level using a maximum likelihood unfolding. Given a reference parton distribution function (PDF), the top quark pole mass is extracted using the theoretical predictions at next-to-leading order. For the ABMP16NLO PDF, this results in$$ {m}_{\textrm{t}}^{\textrm{pole}} $$ = 172.93±1.36 GeV.more » « less

Abstract We report a search for the charged-lepton flavor violation in Υ(2S) →ℓ∓τ±(ℓ=e, μ) decays using a 25 fb−1Υ(2S) sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKBe+e−asymmetric-energy collider. We find no evidence for a signal and set upper limits on the branching fractions ($$ \mathcal{B} $$ ) at 90% confidence level. We obtain the most stringent upper limits:$$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S)→ μ∓τ±)<0.23×10−6and$$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Υ(2S)→ e∓τ±)<1.12×10−6.more » « less

Abstract A study of strange hadron production associated with hard scattering processes and with the underlying event is conducted to investigate the origin of the enhanced production of strange hadrons in small collision systems characterised by large charged-particle multiplicities. For this purpose, the production of the single-strange meson$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ and the double-strange baryon Ξ±is measured, in each event, in the azimuthal direction of the highest-pTparticle (“trigger” particle), related to hard scattering processes, and in the direction transverse to it in azimuth, associated with the underlying event, in pp collisions at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 5.02 TeV and$$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV using the ALICE detector at the LHC. The per-trigger yields of$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ and Ξ±are dominated by the transverse-to-leading production (i.e., in the direction transverse to the trigger particle), whose contribution relative to the toward-leading production is observed to increase with the event charged-particle multiplicity. The transverse-to-leading and the toward-leading Ξ±/$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ yield ratios increase with the multiplicity of charged particles, suggesting that strangeness enhancement with multiplicity is associated with both hard scattering processes and the underlying event. The relative production of Ξ±with respect to$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ is higher in transverse-to-leading processes over the whole multiplicity interval covered by the measurement. The$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ and Ξ±per-trigger yields and yield ratios are compared with predictions of three different phenomenological models, namely Pythia8.2 with the Monash tune, Pythia8.2 with ropes and EPOS LHC. The comparison shows that none of them can quantitatively describe either the transverse-to-leading or the toward-leading yields of$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ and Ξ±.more » « less

Abstract The production of strange hadrons ($$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ , Λ, Ξ±, and Ω±), baryon-to-meson ratios (Λ/$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ , Ξ/$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ , and Ω/$$ {\textrm{K}}_{\textrm{S}}^0 $$ ), and baryon-to-baryon ratios (Ξ/Λ, Ω/Λ, and Ω/Ξ) associated with jets and the underlying event were measured as a function of transverse momentum (pT) in pp collisions at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 13 TeV and p Pb collisions at$$ \sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} $$ = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The inclusive production of the same particle species and the corresponding ratios are also reported. The production of multi-strange hadrons, Ξ±and Ω±, and their associated particle ratios in jets and in the underlying event are measured for the first time. In both pp and p–Pb collisions, the baryon-to-meson and baryon-to-baryon yield ratios measured in jets differ from the inclusive particle production for low and intermediate hadronpT(0.6–6 GeV/c). Ratios measured in the underlying event are in turn similar to those measured for inclusive particle production. In pp collisions, the particle production in jets is compared with Pythia8 predictions with three colour-reconnection implementation modes. None of them fully reproduces the data in the measured hadronpTregion. The maximum deviation is observed for Ξ±and Ω±which reaches a factor of about six. The event multiplicity dependence is further investigated in p−Pb collisions. In contrast to what is observed in the underlying event, there is no significant event-multiplicity dependence for particle production in jets. The presented measurements provide novel constraints on hadronisation and its Monte Carlo description. In particular, they demonstrate that the fragmentation of jets alone is insufficient to describe the strange and multi-strange particle production in hadronic collisions at LHC energies.more » « less
