Title: Carbonate chemistry data from select cruises at the Northeast US Coast Shelf Long Term Ecological Research site from 2018-07-20 to 2019-02-04 (NCEI Accession 0278969)
This dataset consists of carbonate chemistry discrete profile data collected on two of the Northeast US Coast Shelf LTER cruises, EN617 and EN627 summer 2018 and winter 2019. The dataset includes in situ temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen as measured from a CTD, and also includes discrete samples for dissolved inorganic carbon and total alkalinity.  more » « less

  1. The data provided here are from cruise SKQ2021-08S onboard the R/V Sikuliaq from May 21-June11, 2021 in the Bering and Chukchi Seas. The objective of the study was to evaluate the spatiotemporal dynamics of the carbon dioxide seawater system in the Pacific Arctic during the time of active sea ice retreat. This dataset includes discrete water column data for dissolved inorganic carbon and spectrophotometric pH on the total scale (measured at 25 degrees Celsius) along with nutrients, dissolved organic carbon, and in-situ hydrographic parameters. The outputs from carbonate system calculations (e.g., aragonite saturation state, in-situ pH) are also included. The dataset also includes continuous surface partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) data in both ppm and uatm measured at 15 minute intervals.

  2. These data include dissolved silicon concentration and yield from 60 rivers across North America, the Caribbean, and Antarctica from 1964-2021 and are associated with the publication “Long-term change in concentration and yield of riverine dissolved silicon from the poles to the tropics”. Data were compiled from multiple public sources including the Long-term Ecological Research Network, Great Arctic Rivers Observatory, Upper Mississippi River Restoration program, and the U.S. Geological Survey. Concentration and yield estimates were generated by the Weighted Regressions on Time, Discharge and Season model (WRTDS; Hirsch et al. 2010). The dataset includes six files: discrete dissolved silicon data and daily discharge data used as inputs to WRTDS; annual estimates of discharge, concentration, and yield for all rivers; monthly estimates of discharge, concentration, and yield for all rivers; long-term trends in concentration and yield; and a file containing coordinates and drainage area information for each site.

  3. This dataset contains discrete sample measurements of dissolved oxygen, dissolved inorganic carbon, and total alkalinity collected during yearly Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) turn-around cruises to maintain the Irminger Sea Array (60.46°N, 38.44°W). Samples in this dataset were collected as part of an ancillary research project that joined the OOI turn-around cruises in June 2018 and August 2019 as part of ongoing efforts to enable OOI biogeochemical sensor data to be used to address scientific questions about ocean carbon cycling and the biological carbon pump. Discrete sample data collected and analyzed by this research team complement data collected by the OOI program as part of routine turn-around cruise activities. We provide the supplementary measurements made by our team alongside salinity- and oxygen- calibrated Conductivity Temperature Depth (CTD) and oxygen sensor data from the depths where Niskin bottles were closed for sample collection and additional discrete oxygen measurements made by the OOI team.

  4. The dataset is comprised of analyses of sediment cores and sediment trap samples from ferruginous and meromictic Brownie Lake, Minnesota, U.S.A from January 2018 through February 2021. The dataset includes bulk sediment characteristics including water content, grain size, major and minor elements. Voltammetric scans were collected on porewaters and lake waters. Sediment porewaters were analyzed for pH, total alkalinity, ferrous iron, and dissolved sulfur species contents. Sediment samples were maintained under the exclusion of oxygen for analysis by synchrotron-based X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

  5. The Lake Mendota Microbial Observatory collects routine water physical and chemical measurements alongside their microbial samples. This dataset includes measurements of water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, and conductivity collected at the central Deep Hole, collocated with a weather buoy (43°05'58.2"N 89°24'16.2"W). All measurements were collected with handheld probes. Data from 2006-2014 was compiled from multiple sources and includes only water temperature and dissolved oxygen. Data from 2014-2019 is from the same probe, a YSI Pro Plus instrument, and also includes pH and specific conductance. Routine microbial observatory sampling continues into the present.
