Title: Observation of time-dependent CP violation and measurement of the branching fraction of B0→J/ψπ0 decays
We present a measurement of the branching fraction and time-dependent charge-parity ( C P ) decay-rate asymmetries in B 0 J / ψ π 0 decays. The data sample was collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB asymmetric e + e collider in 2019–2022 and contains ( 387 ± 6 ) × 10 6 B B ¯ meson pairs from ϒ ( 4 S ) decays. We reconstruct 392 ± 24 signal decays and fit the C P parameters from the distribution of the proper-decay-time difference of the two B mesons. We measure the branching fraction to be ( B 0 J / ψ π 0 ) = ( 2.00 ± 0.12 ± 0.09 ) × 10 5 and the direct and mixing-induced C P asymmetries to be C C P = 0.13 ± 0.12 ± 0.03 and S C P = 0.88 ± 0.17 ± 0.03 , respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We observe mixing-induced C P violation with a significance of 5.0 standard deviations for the first time in this mode. Published by the American Physical Society2025  more » « less

  1. The first observation of the decay Ξ b ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ and measurement of the branching ratio of Ξ b ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ to Ξ b J / ψ Ξ are presented. The J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) mesons are reconstructed using their dimuon decay modes. The results are based on proton-proton colliding beam data from the LHC collected by the CMS experiment at s = 13 TeV in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb 1 . The branching fraction ratio is measured to be B ( Ξ b ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ ) / B ( Ξ b J / ψ Ξ ) = 0.8 4 0.19 + 0.21 ( stat ) ± 0.10 ( syst ) ± 0.02 ( B ) , where the last uncertainty comes from the uncertainties in the branching fractions of the charmonium states. New measurements of the Ξ b ( 5945 ) 0 baryon mass and natural width are also presented, using the Ξ b π + final state, where the Ξ b baryon is reconstructed through the decays J / ψ Ξ , ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ , J / ψ Λ K , and J / ψ Σ 0 K . Finally, the fraction of Ξ b baryons produced from Ξ b ( 5945 ) 0 decays is determined. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN

  2. We report measurements of time-dependent C P asymmetries in B 0 K S 0 π 0 γ decays based on a data sample of ( 388 ± 6 ) × 10 6 B B ¯ events collected at the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance with the Belle II detector. The Belle II experiment operates at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy e + e collider. We measure decay-time distributions to determine C P -violating parameters S and C . We determine these parameters for two ranges of K S 0 π 0 invariant mass: m ( K S 0 π 0 ) ( 0.8 , 1.0 ) GeV / c 2 , which is dominated by B 0 K * 0 ( K S 0 π 0 ) γ decays, and a complementary region m ( K S 0 π 0 ) ( 0.6 , 0.8 ) ( 1.0 , 1.8 ) GeV / c 2 . Our results have improved precision as compared to previous measurements and are consistent with theory predictions. Published by the American Physical Society2025

  3. We measure the branching fraction and C P -violating flavor-dependent rate asymmetry of B 0 π 0 π 0 decays reconstructed using the Belle II detector in an electron-positron collision sample containing 387 × 10 6 ϒ ( 4 S ) mesons. Using an optimized event selection, we find 125 ± 20 signal decays in a fit to background-discriminating and flavor-sensitive distributions. The resulting branching fraction is ( 1.25 ± 0.23 ) × 10 6 and the C P -violating asymmetry is 0.03 ± 0.30 . Published by the American Physical Society2025

  4. We present a comprehensive study of B 0 ω ω decays using 772 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB e + e collider. This process is a suppressed charmless decay into two vector mesons and can exhibit interesting polarization and C P violation. The decay is observed for the first time with a significance of 7.9 standard deviations. We measure a branching fraction B = ( 1.53 ± 0.29 ± 0.17 ) × 10 6 , a fraction of longitudinal polarization f L = 0.87 ± 0.13 ± 0.13 , and a time-integrated C P asymmetry A C P = 0.44 ± 0.43 ± 0.11 , where the first uncertainties listed are statistical and the second are systematic. This is the first observation of B 0 ω ω and the first measurements of f L and A C P for this decay. Published by the American Physical Society2024

  5. The Ξ b 0 ( ) Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) ( D + ( 0 ) Λ ) π decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb 1 , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined to be 3 / 2 + with a significance of more than 6.5 σ ( 3.5 σ ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξ b 0 ( ) Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) π transitions are measured to be 0.92 ± 0.10 ± 0.05 ( 0.92 ± 0.16 ± 0.22 ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons correspond to the first D -wave λ -mode excitation of the Ξ c flavor triplet. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN
