Title: Enhanced search for neutral current Δ radiative single-photon production in MicroBooNE
We report results from an updated search for neutral current (NC) resonant Δ ( 1232 ) baryon production and subsequent Δ radiative decay (NC Δ N γ ). We consider events with and without final state protons; events with a proton can be compared with the kinematics of a Δ ( 1232 ) baryon decay, while events without a visible proton represent a more generic phase space. In order to maximize sensitivity to each topology, we simultaneously make use of two different reconstruction paradigms, Pandora and Wire-Cell, which have complementary strengths, and select mostly orthogonal sets of events. Considering an overall scaling of the NC Δ N γ rate as an explanation of the MiniBooNE anomaly, our data exclude this hypothesis at 94.4% CL. When we decouple the expected correlations between NC Δ N γ events with and without final state protons, our data exclude an interpretation in which all excess events have associated protons at 2.0 σ , and are consistent with an interpretation in which all excess events have no associated protons at  0.63 σ more » « less

  1. A comprehensive study of the angular distributions in the bottom-baryon decays Λ b 0 Λ c + h ( h = π , K ) , followed by Λ c + Λ h + with Λ p π or Λ c + p K S 0 decays, is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb 1 collected by the LHCb experiment at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV. The decay parameters and the associated charge-parity ( C P ) asymmetries are measured, with no significant C P violation observed. For the first time, the Λ b 0 Λ c + h decay parameters are measured. The most precise measurements of the decay parameters α , β , and γ are obtained for Λ c + decays and an independent measurement of the decay parameters for the strange-baryon Λ decay is provided. The results deepen our understanding of weak decay dynamics in baryon decays. © 2024 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2024CERN

  2. The first observation of the decay Ξ b ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ and measurement of the branching ratio of Ξ b ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ to Ξ b J / ψ Ξ are presented. The J / ψ and ψ ( 2 S ) mesons are reconstructed using their dimuon decay modes. The results are based on proton-proton colliding beam data from the LHC collected by the CMS experiment at s = 13 TeV in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb 1 . The branching fraction ratio is measured to be B ( Ξ b ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ ) / B ( Ξ b J / ψ Ξ ) = 0.8 4 0.19 + 0.21 ( stat ) ± 0.10 ( syst ) ± 0.02 ( B ) , where the last uncertainty comes from the uncertainties in the branching fractions of the charmonium states. New measurements of the Ξ b ( 5945 ) 0 baryon mass and natural width are also presented, using the Ξ b π + final state, where the Ξ b baryon is reconstructed through the decays J / ψ Ξ , ψ ( 2 S ) Ξ , J / ψ Λ K , and J / ψ Σ 0 K . Finally, the fraction of Ξ b baryons produced from Ξ b ( 5945 ) 0 decays is determined. © 2024 CERN, for the CMS Collaboration2024CERN

  3. The first measurement of the C P asymmetry of the decay rate ( A C P ) and the C P average ( Σ A FB ) and C P asymmetry ( Δ A FB ) of the forward-backward asymmetry in the muon system of Λ c + p μ + μ decays is reported. The measurement is performed using a data sample of proton-proton collisions, recorded by the LHCb experiment from 2016 to 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb 1 . The asymmetries are measured in two regions of dimuon mass near the  ϕ -meson mass peak. The dimuon-mass integrated results are A C P = ( 1.1 ± 4.0 ± 0.5 ) % , Σ A FB = ( 3.9 ± 4.0 ± 0.6 ) % , Δ A FB = ( 3.1 ± 4.0 ± 0.4 ) % , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The results are consistent with the conservation of C P symmetry and the Standard Model expectations. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN

  4. We report the result of a search for the rare decay B 0 γ γ using a combined dataset of 753 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle experiment and 387 × 10 6 B B ¯ pairs collected by the Belle II experiment from decays of the ϒ ( 4 S ) resonance produced in e + e collisions. A simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle II data sets yields 11.0 5.5 + 6.5 signal events, corresponding to a 2.5 σ significance. We determine the branching fraction B ( B 0 γ γ ) = ( 3.7 1.8 + 2.2 ( stat ) ± 0.5 ( syst ) ) × 10 8 and set a 90% credibility level upper limit of B ( B 0 γ γ ) < 6.4 × 10 8 . 5. The Ξ b 0 ( ) Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) ( D + ( 0 ) Λ ) π decay chains are observed, and the spin-parity of Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined for the first time. The measurement is performed using proton-proton collision data at a center-of-mass energy of s = 13 TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb 1 , recorded by the LHCb experiment between 2016 and 2018. The spin-parity of the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons is determined to be 3 / 2 + with a significance of more than 6.5 σ ( 3.5 σ ) compared to all other tested hypotheses. The up-down asymmetries of the Ξ b 0 ( ) Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) π transitions are measured to be 0.92 ± 0.10 ± 0.05 ( 0.92 ± 0.16 ± 0.22 ), consistent with maximal parity violation, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. These results support the hypothesis that the Ξ c ( 3055 ) + ( 0 ) baryons correspond to the first D -wave λ -mode excitation of the Ξ c flavor triplet. © 2025 CERN, for the LHCb Collaboration2025CERN
