    ABSTRACT

Here, we report the draft genome sequences ofFlagellimonassp. MMG031 andMarinobactersp. MMG032, isolated from coral-associated dinoflagellateSymbiodinium pilosum, assembled and analyzed by undergraduate students participating in a Marine Microbial Genomics (MMG) course. A genomic comparison suggests MMG031 and MMG032 are novel species and a resource for restoration and biotechnology.

ABSTRACT <p>We report the genome sequence ofBacillus subtilisstrain YB955, a prophage-cured strain used as a model in DNA repair, bacterial physiology, and mutagenesis studies. The assembled and annotated draft genome contains 4,031 coding genes, 5 rRNAs, and 73 tRNAs. Compared to 168, YB955 has a 134,402 bp deletion.</p>
</div> <a href='#' class='show open-abstract' style='margin-left:10px;'>more »</a> <a href='#' class='hide close-abstract' style='margin-left:10px;'>« less</a> <div class="actions" style="padding-left:10px;"> <span class="reader-count"> Free, publicly-accessible full text available August 13, 2025</span> </div> </div><div class="clearfix"></div> </div> </li> <li> <div class="article item document" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/TechArticle"> <div class="item-info"> <div class="title"> <a href="https://par.nsf.gov/biblio/10577359-draft-genome-sequence-methanocalculus-natronophilus-sp-strain-alkaliphilic-methanogenic-archaeon-isolated-from-soda-lake" itemprop="url"> <span class='span-link' itemprop="name">Draft genome sequence of Methanocalculus natronophilus sp. strain Z-7105 T , an alkaliphilic, methanogenic archaeon isolated from a soda lake</span> </a> </div> <div> <strong> <a class="misc external-link" href="https://doi.org/10.1128/mra.00350-24" target="_blank" title="Link to document DOI">https://doi.org/10.1128/mra.00350-24  <span class="fas fa-external-link-alt"></span></a> </strong> </div> <div class="metadata"> <span class="authors"> <span class="author" itemprop="author">Elkassas, Sabrina M</span> <span class="sep">; </span><span class="author" itemprop="author">Serres, Margrethe H</span> <span class="sep">; </span><span class="author" itemprop="author">Richardson, Derrick</span> <span class="sep">; </span><span class="author" itemprop="author">Zhilina, Tatyana N</span> <span class="sep">; </span><span class="author" itemprop="author">Huber, Julie A</span> </span> <span class="year">( <time itemprop="datePublished" datetime="2024-07-18">July 2024</time> , Microbiology Resource Announcements) </span> </div> <span class="editors"> <span class="editor" itemprop="editor">Roux, Simon</span> (Ed.) </span> <div style="cursor: pointer;-webkit-line-clamp: 5;" class="abstract" itemprop="description"> <title>ABSTRACT

A methanogenic archaeon was isolated from bottom sediments in the vicinity of Lake Tanatar II (Altai, Russia), an alkaline soda lake. Here we present the draft genome sequence ofMethanocalculus natronophilussp. strain Z-7105T.

    ABSTRACT

Seven bacteriophages were isolated from soil in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin using the hostMicrobacterium foliorum. These bacteriophages range in the number of predicted genes encoded, from 25 to 91, and are distributed across actinobacteriophage clusters EB, EC, EE, and EK.

    ABSTRACT

A whole genome sequence of aPaenibacillussp. bacterium isolated from soil in Fort Collins, Colorado was obtained. This bacterium was of particular interest due to its antibiotic potential against Gram-positive pathogen surrogates.

ABSTRACT Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infections are widespread in human populations. Here, I describe single-cell RNA sequencing of two lymphoblastoid cell lines harboring both episomal EBV and inherited chromosomally integrated HHV-6. Rare instances of HHV-6 expression appear enriched with EBV reactivation.

ABSTRACT South polar skuas migrate from subtropical regions to breed along coastal Antarctica. In a fecal sample collected on Ross Island, Antarctica, we identified 20 diverse microviruses ( Microviridae ) that share low levels of similarity to currently known microviruses; 6 appear to use a Mycoplasma/Spiroplasma codon translation table.

ABSTRACT Chop, DelRio, and GrandSlam are phage with a Siphoviridae morphotype isolated from soil in Arkansas using the host Gordonia terrae 3612. All three are temperate, and their genomes share at least 96% nucleotide identity. These phage are assigned to cluster DI based on gene content similarity to other sequenced actinobacteriophage.

Iterons are short, repeated DNA sequences that are important for the replication of circular single-stranded DNA viruses. No tools that can reliably predict iterons are currently available. The CRUcivirus Iteron SEarch (CRUISE) tool is a computational tool that identifies iteron candidates near stem-loop structures in viral genomes.

ABSTRACT We characterized the complete genome sequence of Chako, an obligate lytic bacteriophage with siphovirus morphology from subcluster EA1 that infects Microbacterium foliorum NRRL B-24224. Its 41.6-kb genome contains 62 putative protein-coding genes and is highly similar to that of bacteriophage HanSolo (99.26% nucleotide identity).
