Abstract Aryl fluorosulfates of varying complexities have been used in amination reactions in water using a new Pd oxidative addition complex (OAC‐1) developed specifically to match the needs of the fine chemicals industry, not only in terms of functional group tolerance, but also reflecting time considerations associated with these important C−N couplings. Also especially noteworthy is that they replace both PFAS‐related triflates and nonaflates, which are today out of favor due to recent government regulations. The new complex based on the BippyPhos ligand is used at low loadings and under aqueous micellar conditions. Moreover, it is easily prepared and stable to long term storage. DFT calculations on the OAC precatalyst compare well with the X‐ray structure of the crystals with π‐complexation to the aromatic system of the ligand and also confirm the NMR data showing a mixture of conformers in solution that differ from the X‐ray structure in rotation of the phenyl andt‐butyl ligand substituents. An extensive variety of coupling partners, including pharmaceutically relevant APIs, readily participate under mild and environmentally responsible reaction conditions.

A database framework for rapid screening of structure-function relationships in PFAS chemistry
Abstract This paper describes a database framework that enables one to rapidly explore systematics in structure-function relationships associated with new and emerging PFAS chemistries. The data framework maps high dimensional information associated with the SMILES approach of encoding molecular structure with functionality data including bioactivity and physicochemical property. This ‘PFAS-Map’ is a 3-dimensional unsupervised visualization tool that can automatically classify new PFAS chemistries based on current PFAS classification criteria. We provide examples on how the PFAS-Map can be utilized, including the prediction and estimation of yet unmeasured fundamental physical properties of PFAS chemistries, uncovering hierarchical characteristics in existing classification schemes, and the fusion of data from diverse sources.

Abstract This article describes a machine learning guided framework for screening the potential toxicity impact of amine chemistries used in the synthesis of hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites. Using a combination of a probabilistic molecular fingerprint technique that encodes bond connectivity (MinHash) coupled to non‐linear data dimensionality reduction methods (Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection), we develop an “Amine Atlas.” We show how the Amine Atlas can be used to rapidly screen the relative toxicity levels of amine molecules used in the synthesis of 2D and 3D perovskites and help identify safer alternatives. Our work also serves as a framework for rapidly identifying molecular similarity guided, structure–function relationships for safer materials chemistries that also incorporate sustainability/toxicity concerns.more » « less

Abstract The Quantemol database (QDB) provides cross sections and rates of processes important for plasma models; heavy particle collisions (chemical reactions) and electron collision processes are considered. The current version of QDB has data on 28 917 processes between 2485 distinct species plus data for surface processes. These data are available via a web interface or can be delivered directly to plasma models using an application program interface; data are available in formats suitable for direct input into a variety of popular plasma modeling codes including HPEM, COMSOL, ChemKIN, CFD-ACE+, and VisGlow. QDB provides ready assembled plasma chemistries plus the ability to build bespoke chemistries. The database also provides a Boltzmann solver for electron dynamics and a zero-dimensional model. Thesedevelopments, use cases involving O2, Ar/NF3, Ar/NF3/O2, and He/H2O/O2chemistries, and plans for the future are presented.more » « less

We prove that is a symplectomorphism with respect to its fundamental form and that can be obtained as an analogue to the construction of Tabachnikov of the outer billiard in defined in terms of the standard symplectic structure. We show that does not preserve the fundamental symplectic form on associated with the cross product on , for . We initiate the dynamical study of this outer billiard in the hyperbolic case by introducing and discussing a notion of holonomy for periodic points.more » « less

Abstract Web‐building spiders are formidable predators, yet assassin bugs in the Emesine Complex (Hemiptera: Reduviidae: Emesinae, Saicinae, and Visayanocorinae) prey on spiders. The Emesine Complex comprises >1000 species and these web‐associated predatory strategies may have driven their diversification. However, lack of natural history data and a robust phylogenetic framework currently preclude tests of this hypothesis. We combine Sanger (207 taxa, 3865 bp) and high‐throughput sequencing data (15 taxa, 381 loci) to generate the first taxon‐ and data‐rich phylogeny for this group. We discover rampant paraphyly among subfamilies and tribes, necessitating revisions to the classification. We use ancestral character state reconstructions for 40 morphological characters to identify diagnostic features for a revised classification. Our new classification treats Saicinae Stål and Visayanocorinae Miller as junior synonyms of Emesinae Amyot and Serville, synonymizes the emesine tribes Ploiariolini Van Duzee and Metapterini Stål with Emesini Amyot and Serville, and recognises six tribes within Emesinae (Collartidini Wygodzinsky, Emesini, Leistarchini Stål, Oncerotrachelinitrib.n., Saicini Stålstat.n., and Visayanocorini Millerstat.n.). We show that a pretarsal structure putatively involved in web‐associated behaviours evolved in the last common ancestor of Emesini, the most species‐rich clade within Emesinae, suggesting that web‐associations could be widespread in Emesinae.more » « less
