A bstract We study which bulk couplings contribute to the S 3 free energy F ( $$ \mathfrak{m} $$ m ) of three-dimensional $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 superconformal field theories with holographic duals, potentially deformed by boundary real-mass parameters m. In particular, we show that F ( $$ \mathfrak{m} $$ m ) is independent of a large class of bulk couplings that include non-chiral F-terms and all D-terms. On the other hand, in general, F ( $$ \mathfrak{m} $$ m ) does depend non-trivially on bulk chiral F-terms, such as prepotential interactions, and on bulk real-mass terms. These conclusions can be reached solely from properties of the AdS super-algebra, $$ \mathfrak{osp} $$ osp (2|4). We also consider massive vector multiplets in AdS, which in the dual field theory correspond to long single-trace superconformal multiplets of spin zero. We provide evidence that F ( $$ \mathfrak{m} $$ m ) is insensitive to the vector multiplet mass and to the interaction couplings between the massive vector multiplet and massless ones. In particular, this implies that F ( $$ \mathfrak{m} $$ m ) does not contain information about scaling dimensions or OPE coefficients of single-trace long scalar $$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 2 superconformal multiplets.

Boundaries and interfaces with localized cubic interactions in the O(N) model
Abstract We explore a new approach to boundaries and interfaces in theO(N) model where we add certain localized cubic interactions. These operators are nearly marginal when the bulk dimension is 4 −ϵ, and they explicitly break theO(N) symmetry of the bulk theory down toO(N− 1). We show that the one-loop beta functions of the cubic couplings are affected by the quartic bulk interactions. For the interfaces, we find real fixed points up to the critical valueNcrit≈ 7, while forN >4 there are IR stable fixed points with purely imaginary values of the cubic couplings. For the boundaries, there are real fixed points for allN, but we don’t find any purely imaginary fixed points. We also consider the theories ofMpairs of symplectic fermions and one real scalar, which have quartic OSp(1|2M) invariant interactions in the bulk. We then add the Sp(2M) invariant localized cubic interactions. The beta functions for these theories are related to those in theO(N) model via the replacement ofNby 1 − 2M. In the special caseM= 1, there are boundary or interface fixed points that preserve the OSp(1|2) symmetry, as well as other fixed points that break it.

Abstract It has been proposed that the Ginzburg-Landau description of the non-unitary conformal minimal modelM(3, 8) is provided by the Euclidean theory of two real scalar fields with third-order interactions that have imaginary coefficients. The same lagrangian describes the non-unitary modelM(3, 10), which is a product of two Yang-Lee theoriesM(2, 5), and the Renormalization Group flow from it toM(3, 8). This proposal has recently passed an important consistency check, due to Y. Nakayama and T. Tanaka, based on the anomaly matching for non-invertible topological lines. In this paper, we elaborate the earlier proposal and argue that the two-field theory describes theDseries modular invariants of bothM(3, 8) andM(3, 10). We further propose the Ginzburg-Landau descriptions of the entire class ofDseries minimal modelsM(q, 3q– 1) andM(q, 3q+ 1), with odd integerq. They involve$$ \mathcal{PT} $$ symmetric theories of two scalar fields with interactions of orderqmultiplied by imaginary coupling constants.more » « less

We consider a UV-complete field-theoretic model in general dimensions, including d=2+1, which consists of two copies of thelong-range vector models, with O(m) and O(N-m) global symmetry groups, perturbed by double-trace operators.Using conformal perturbation theorywe find weakly-coupled IR fixed points for N\geq 6 N ≥ 6 that reveal a spontaneousbreaking of global symmetry. Namely, at finite temperature the lower rank group is broken, with the pattern persisting at all temperatures due to scale-invariance. We provide evidence that the models in question are unitary and invariant under full conformal symmetry. Furthermore, we show that this model exhibits a continuous family of weakly interacting field theories at finite N.more » « less

Abstract We use insights from string field theory to analyze and cure the divergences in the cylinder diagram in minimal string theory with both boundaries lying on a ZZ brane. We focus on theories with worldsheet matter consisting of the (2, p) minimal model plus Liouville theory, with total central charge 26, together with the usualbc-ghosts. The string field theory procedure gives a finite, purely imaginary normalization constant for non-perturbative effects in minimal string theory, or doubly non-perturbative effects in JT gravity. We find precise agreement with the prediction from the dual double-scaled one-matrix integral. We also make a few remarks about the extension of this result to the more general (p′, p) minimal string.more » « less

A bstract We study 2-point correlation functions for scalar operators in position space through holography including bulk cubic couplings as well as higher curvature couplings to the square of the Weyl tensor. We focus on scalar operators with large conformal dimensions. This allows us to use the geodesic approximation for propagators. In addition to the leading order contribution, captured by geodesics anchored at the insertion points of the operators on the boundary and probing the bulk geometry thoroughly studied in the literature, the first correction is given by a Witten diagram involving both the bulk cubic coupling and the higher curvature couplings. As a result, this correction is proportional to the VEV of a neutral operator O k and thus probes the interior of the black hole exactly as in the case studied by Grinberg and Maldacena [13]. The form of the correction matches the general expectations in CFT and allows to identify the contributions of T n O k (being T n the general contraction of n energy-momentum tensors) to the 2-point function. This correction is actually the leading term for off-diagonal correlators (i.e. correlators for operators of different conformal dimension), which can then be computed holographically in this way.more » « less
