A<sc>bstract</sc> In this paper we discuss gauging noninvertible zero-form symmetries in two dimensions, extending our previous work. Specifically, in this work we discuss more general gauged noninvertible symmetries in which the noninvertible symmetry is not multiplicity free, and discuss the case of Rep(A4) in detail. We realize Rep(A4) gaugings for thec= 1 CFT at the exceptional point in the moduli space and find new self-duality under gauging a certain non-group algebra object, leading to a larger noninvertible symmetry Rep(SL(2, ℤ3)). We also discuss more general examples of decomposition in two-dimensional gauge theories with trivially-acting gauged noninvertible symmetries.

Gauge-fixing local H symmetry in supergravities
A<sc>bstract</sc> We discuss known maximalD-dimensional supergravities of two types: type I withG/Hcoset spaces and type II derived by compactification from higher dimensions without dualization, these have less manifest symmetries. In 4Dand 6Din type I models we perform explicit gauge-fixing of localHsymmetries in unitary gauges: symmetric, Iwasawa and partial Iwasawa. In 4Dsupergravity I in symmetric gauge globalH-invariance and nonlinearly realizedG-symmetry are valid on shell, classically. The globalH-symmetry andG-symmetry in Iwasawa-type gauges in type I and in type II supergravities are not manifest, if at all present. This fact raises the issue of the gauge equivalence of the S-matrix of various gauge-fixedD-dimensional supergravities and its relation to the ones computable using superamplitude methods.

A<sc>bstract</sc> We studyd= 4,$$ \mathcal{N} $$ ≥ 5 supergravities and their deformation via candidate counterterms, with the purpose to absorb UV divergences. We generalize the earlier studies of deformation and twisted self-duality constraint to the case with unbroken local$$ \mathcal{H} $$ -symmetry in presence of fermions. We find that the deformed action breaks nonlinear local supersymmetry. We show that all known cases of enhanced UV divergence cancellations are explained by nonlinear local supersymmetry. This result implies, in particular, that if$$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 5 supergravity at five loop will turn out to be UV divergent, the deformed theory will be BRST inconsistent. If it will be finite, it will be a consequence of nonlinear local supersymmetry and E7-type duality.more » « less

A<sc>bstract</sc> In this paper we discuss gauging noninvertible zero-form symmetries in two dimensions. We specialize to certain gaugeable cases, specifically, fusion categories of the form$$ \textrm{Rep}\left(\mathcal{H}\right) $$ for$$ \mathcal{H} $$ a suitable Hopf algebra (which includes the special case Rep(G) forGa finite group). We also specialize to the case that the fusion category is multiplicity-free. We discuss how to construct a modular-invariant partition function from a choice of Frobenius algebra structure on$$ {\mathcal{H}}^{\ast } $$ . We discuss how ordinaryGorbifolds for finite groupsGare a special case of the construction, corresponding to the fusion category Vec(G) = Rep(ℂ[G]*). For the cases Rep(S3), Rep(D4), and Rep(Q8), we construct the crossing kernels for general intertwiner maps. We explicitly compute partition functions in the examples of Rep(S3), Rep(D4), Rep(Q8), and$$ \textrm{Rep}\left({\mathcal{H}}_8\right) $$ , and discuss applications inc= 1 CFTs. We also discuss decomposition in the special case that the entire noninvertible symmetry group acts trivially.more » « less

Abstract As a part of the Deciphering the Interplay between the Interstellar medium, Stars, and the Circumgalactic medium (DIISC) survey, we investigate indirect evidence of gas inflow into the disk of the galaxyNGC 99. We combine optical spectra from the Binospec spectrograph on the MMT telescope with optical imaging data from the Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope, radio Hi21 cm emission images from the NSF Karl G. Jansky’s Very Large Array, and UV spectroscopy from the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph on the Hubble Space Telescope. We measure emission lines (Hα, Hβ, [Oiii]λ5007, [Nii]λ6583, and [Sii]λ6717, 31) in 26 Hiiregions scattered about the galaxy and estimate a radial metallicity gradient of −0.017 dex kpc−1using the N2 metallicity indicator. Two regions in the sample exhibit an anomalously low metallicity (ALM) of 12 + log(O/H) = 8.36 dex, which is ∼0.16 dex lower than other regions at that galactocentric radius. They also show a high difference between their Hiand Hαline of sight velocities on the order of 35 km s−1. Chemical evolution modeling indicates gas accretion as the cause of the ALM regions. We find evidence for corotation between the interstellar medium ofNGC 99and Lyαclouds in its circumgalactic medium, which suggests a possible pathway for low metallicity gas accretion. We also calculate the resolved Fundamental Metallicity Relation (rFMR) on subkiloparsec scales using localized gas-phase metallicity, stellar mass surface density, and star formation rate surface density. The rFMR shows a similar trend as that found by previous localized and global FMR relations.more » « less

A<sc>bstract</sc> We investigate a class of mass deformations that connect pairs of 2d(0,2) gauge theories associated to different toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds. These deformations are generalizations to 2dof the well-known Klebanov-Witten deformation relating the 4dgauge theories for the ℂ2/ℤ2× ℂ orbifold and the conifold. We investigate various aspects of these deformations, including their connection to brane brick models and the relation between the change in the geometry and the pattern of symmetry breaking triggered by the deformation. We also explore how the volume of the Sasaki-Einstein 7-manifold at the base of the Calabi-Yau 4-fold varies under deformation, which leads us to conjecture that it quantifies the number of degrees of freedom of the gauge theory and its dependence on the RG scale.more » « less
