Abstract We study the production of$$D^0$$ meson inp+pandp-Pb collisions using the improved AMPT model considering both coalescence and independent fragmentation of charm quarks after the Cronin broadening is included. After a detailed discussion of the improvements implemented in the AMPT model for heavy quark production, we show that the modified AMPT model can provide a good description of$$D^0$$ meson spectra inp-Pb collisions, the$$Q_{\textrm{pPb}}$$ data at different centralities and$$R_{\textrm{pPb}}$$ data in both mid- and forward (backward) rapidities. We also studied the effects of nuclear shadowing and parton cascade on the rapidity dependence of$$D^{0}$$ meson production and$$R_{\textrm{pPb}}$$ . Our results indicate that using the same strength of the Cronin effect (i.e$$\delta $$ value) as that obtained from the mid-rapidity data leads to a considerable overestimation of the$$D^0$$ meson spectra and$$R_{\textrm{pPb}}$$ data at high$$p_{\textrm{T}}$$ in the backward rapidity. As a result, the$$\delta $$ is determined via a$$\chi ^2$$ fitting of the$$R_{\textrm{pPb}}$$ data across various rapidities. This work lays the foundation for a better understanding of cold-nuclear-matter (CNM) effects in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

New Variants of Arithmetic Quantum Ergodicity
Abstract We establish two new variants of arithmetic quantum ergodicity. The first is for self-dual$$\textrm{GL}_2$$ Hecke–Maaß newforms over$$\mathbb {Q}$$ as the level and Laplace eigenvalue vary jointly. The second is a nonsplit analogue wherein almost all restrictions of Hilbert (respectively Bianchi) Hecke–Maaß cusp forms to the modular surface dissipate as their Laplace eigenvalues grow.

Abstract For a smooth projective varietyXover an algebraic number fieldka conjecture of Bloch and Beilinson predicts that the kernel of the Albanese map ofXis a torsion group. In this article we consider a product$$X=C_1\times \cdots \times C_d$$ of smooth projective curves and show that if the conjecture is true for any subproduct of two curves, then it is true forX. For a product$$X=C_1\times C_2$$ of two curves over$$\mathbb {Q} $$ with positive genus we construct many nontrivial examples that satisfy the weaker property that the image of the natural map$$J_1(\mathbb {Q})\otimes J_2(\mathbb {Q})\xrightarrow {\varepsilon }{{\,\textrm{CH}\,}}_0(C_1\times C_2)$$ is finite, where$$J_i$$ is the Jacobian variety of$$C_i$$ . Our constructions include many new examples of non-isogenous pairs of elliptic curves$$E_1, E_2$$ with positive rank, including the first known examples of rank greater than 1. Combining these constructions with our previous result, we obtain infinitely many nontrivial products$$X=C_1\times \cdots \times C_d$$ for which the analogous map$$\varepsilon $$ has finite image.more » « less

Abstract This work presents MARS (Modular apparatus for nuclear reactions spectroscopy) and its characterization prior to its first application to measure$$^6$$ Li+$$^{12}$$ C nuclear reactions. Measurements were performed at the 3 MV tandem accelerator of the CNA (National Accelerator Center), in Seville, Spain. The$$^{6}$$ Li projectiles were accelerated at energies around the$$^6$$ Li+$$^{12}$$ C Coulomb barrier ($$V^{\text {cm}}_{B}\sim 3.0$$ MeV - center of mass and$$V^{\text {lab}}_{B}\sim 4.5$$ MeV - laboratory frame). Using a$$^{6}\hbox {Li}^{2+}$$ beam, we measured at 13 laboratory energies from 4.00 to 7.75 MeV. Thus, we present the excitation function of$$^{12}$$ C($$^6$$ Li,$$^4$$ He)$$^{14}\hbox {N}^{g.s.}$$ reaction, at 2 backward angles ($$110.0^\circ $$ and$$140.0^\circ $$ ). The projectile dissociation, leading to this reaction, increases with the bombarding energies around the Coulomb barrier. This dissociation is favored at an optimum energy$$E_{b}^{\text {op}}$$ $$\ge $$ $$V_{B}$$ +$$|Q_{bu}|$$ , where$$V_{B}$$ is the Coulomb barrier of the system, and$$|Q_{bu}|$$ is the module ofQ-value for the$$^6$$ Li dissociation into$$^4$$ He+$$^2$$ H. This result corroborates a systematic analysis of weakly bound projectiles reacting on several targets [1].more » « less

Abstract Fix a positive integernand a finite field$${\mathbb {F}}_q$$ . We study the joint distribution of the rank$${{\,\mathrm{rk}\,}}(E)$$ , then-Selmer group$$\text {Sel}_n(E)$$ , and then-torsion in the Tate–Shafarevich group Equation missing<#comment/>asEvaries over elliptic curves of fixed height$$d \ge 2$$ over$${\mathbb {F}}_q(t)$$ . We compute this joint distribution in the largeqlimit. We also show that the “largeq, then large height” limit of this distribution agrees with the one predicted by Bhargava–Kane–Lenstra–Poonen–Rains.more » « less

Abstract The elliptic flow$$(v_2)$$ of$${\textrm{D}}^{0}$$ mesons from beauty-hadron decays (non-prompt$${\textrm{D}}^{0})$$ was measured in midcentral (30–50%) Pb–Pb collisions at a centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair$$\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} = 5.02$$ TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The$${\textrm{D}}^{0}$$ mesons were reconstructed at midrapidity$$(|y|<0.8)$$ from their hadronic decay$$\mathrm {D^0 \rightarrow K^-\uppi ^+}$$ , in the transverse momentum interval$$2< p_{\textrm{T}} < 12$$ GeV/c. The result indicates a positive$$v_2$$ for non-prompt$${{\textrm{D}}^{0}}$$ mesons with a significance of 2.7$$\sigma $$ . The non-prompt$${{\textrm{D}}^{0}}$$ -meson$$v_2$$ is lower than that of prompt non-strange D mesons with 3.2$$\sigma $$ significance in$$2< p_\textrm{T} < 8~\textrm{GeV}/c$$ , and compatible with the$$v_2$$ of beauty-decay electrons. Theoretical calculations of beauty-quark transport in a hydrodynamically expanding medium describe the measurement within uncertainties.more » « less
