  1. Abstract Quantum Chromodynamics predicts a phase transition from hadronic matter to quark–gluon plasma (QGP) at high temperatures and energy densities, where quarks and gluons (partons) are no longer confined within hadrons. The QGP forms in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions. Anisotropic flow coefficients, quantifying the azimuthal expansion of produced matter, probe QGP properties. Flow measurements in high-energy heavy-ion collisions show a distinctive grouping of anisotropic flow for baryons and mesons at intermediate transverse momentum – a feature associated with flow imparted at the quark level, confirming QGP existence. The observation of QGP-like features in proton–proton and proton–ion collisions has sparked debate about QGP formation in smaller systems. For the first time, we demonstrate the distinctive grouping of anisotropic flow for baryons and mesons in high-multiplicity proton–lead and proton–proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). These results are described by a model including hydrodynamic flow followed by hadron formation via quark coalescence, consistent with the formation of partonic flowing systems in these collisions.

  2. Abstract This paper presents a study of the charmless three-body decays$$ {B}_{(s)}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{h}^{+}h{\prime}^{-} $$ Bs0 →KS0h+h′− (whereh(′)=π, K), using a sample ofppcollision data collected by the LHCb experiment during Runs 1 and 2 of the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 fb−1. The decay$$ {B}_s^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{K}^{+}{K}^{-} $$ Bs0→KS0K+K− is observed for the first time, and the following ratios of branching fractions are measured:$$ {\displaystyle \begin{array}{l}\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{K}^{+}{K}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)}=0.578\pm 0.007\pm 0.017,\\ {}\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{K}^{\pm }{K}^{\mp}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)}=0.1363\pm 0.0035\pm 0.051,\\ {}\begin{array}{l}\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)}=0.269\pm 0.011\pm 0.015\pm 0.008,\\ {}\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{K}^{+}{K}^{-}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)}=0.0303\pm 0.0041\pm 0.0025\pm 0.0009,\\ {}\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({B}_s^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{K}^{\pm }{\pi}^{\mp}\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({B}^0\to {K}_{\mathrm{S}}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)}=1.818\pm 0.021\pm 0.031\pm 0.056,\end{array}\end{array}} $$ B B0→KS0K+K− B B0→KS0π+π− =0.578±0.007±0.017, B B0→KS0K±K∓ B B0→KS0π+π− =0.1363±0.0035±0.051, B Bs0→KS0π+π− B B0→KS0π+π− =0.269±0.011±0.015±0.008, B Bs0→KS0K+K− B B0→KS0π+π− =0.0303±0.0041±0.0025±0.0009, B Bs0→KS0K±π∓ B B0→KS0π+π− =1.818±0.021±0.031±0.056, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to knowledge of the ratio of hadronisation fractions of the$$ {B}_s^0 $$ Bs0 andB0mesons, respectively.

  3. The time-dependent CP asymmetry in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays is measured using proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb−1 , collected with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV during the years 2015–2018. The CP -violation parameters for this process are determined to be 2 β c c¯ d eff =0.710±0.084±0.051  rad and |λ|=1.019±0.034±0.024 , where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This constitutes the first observation of time-dependent CP violation in B0→J/ψρ(770)0 decays. Assuming approximate SU(3) flavor symmetry, these results are combined with the previous consistent LHCb measurement to set the most stringent constraint on the penguin contribution, Δϕs , to the CP -violating phase ϕs in Bs0→J/ψϕ(1020) decays, yielding Δϕs=5.0±4.6  mrad .

  4. Muon-electron universality is tested in B0→K*0ℓ+ℓ− decays, in the dilepton-invariant-mass region above the ψ(2S) resonance. The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in proton-proton collisions recorded by the LHCb detector at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8, and 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9  fb−1 . The ratio of branching fractions between the muon and electron channels RK*0 is measured to be 1.08−0.12+0.14 (stat)±0.07(syst) for a dilepton-invariant-mass squared above 14.0  GeV2/c4 , consistent with the standard model prediction. This result represents the most precise measurement of RK*0 in this region and the first such measurement performed at a hadron collider.

  5. The first observation of the doubly charmed baryon Ξcc+ is reported through its decay to the Λc+ K−π+ final state, with a statistical significance exceeding seven standard deviations. The observation is made using proton-proton collision data collected in 2024 with the LHCb Run 3 detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13.6 TeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 6.9  fb−1 . The Ξcc+ mass is measured to be 3619.97±0.83± 0.26−1.30+1.90   MeV/c2 , where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is due to the unknown Ξcc+ lifetime, which is assumed to lie in the range 15–160 fs with a baseline value of 45 fs. The difference between the masses of the Ξcc+ and Ξcc++ baryons is determined to be −1.77±0.84± 0.15−1.30+1.90   MeV/c2 . This is the first observation of a new particle made with the LHCb Run 3 detector.

  6. A search for the rare decay B+→ Λ¯ pμ+μ− is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of s =13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . An excess of events is found with respect to the background-only expectation, with a signal significance of 3.5 standard deviations, in the low invariant-mass region of m( Λ¯ p)<2.8  GeV/c2 . The branching fraction is measured to be Blow (B+→ Λ¯ pμ+μ− )= (1.7 0−0.56+0.65 (stat)±0.17(syst)±0.14(ext)) ×10−8 , where the last uncertainty is due to external inputs on B(B+→ J/ψ Λ¯ p )×B(J/ψ→μ+μ−) . With no significant signal observed in the high m(Λ¯p) region above 2.8  GeV/c2 , an upper limit is set to be Bhigh (B+→ Λ¯ pμ+μ− )<2.8(3.7)×10−9 at the 90% (95%) confidence level.

  7. An analysis of the B0→K*0(→K+π−)μ+μ− decay is presented using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.4  fb−1 . The full set of CP -averaged and CP -asymmetric angular observables is determined in bins of the invariant mass squared of the dimuon system, as well as the branching fraction relative to the B0→J/ψ(→μ+μ−)K+π− decay. For the first time, the full set of observables pertaining to the K+π− S-wave contribution to the final state are presented and consideration is given to effects arising from the mass of the muons. The extracted CP -asymmetry observables show no significant deviations from zero. The measurements of the CP -averaged observables and the branching fractions continue to exhibit the pattern of tensions with the standard model predictions that have been seen in previous analyses that use part of the dataset considered in this Letter.

  8. The decay B0→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− KS0 is studied at LHCb for the first time using proton-proton collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The branching ratio relative to the decay B+→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− K+ is measured to be [ B(B0→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− KS0 )]/[B(B+→ Λc+ Λ¯ c− K+)]=0.53±0.05±0.05 where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Evidence is found for contributions from two resonant states, Ξc(2923)+ and Ξc(2939)+ , in the Λc+KS0 system. The two states show a significance of 3.9σ relative to the nonresonant hypothesis. These two Ξc+ states are consistent with being the isospin partners of the states observed in the Λc+K− system.

  9. Abstract The azimuthal-correlation distributions between electrons from the decays of heavy-flavor hadrons and associated charged particles in Pb–Pb collisions at$$\sqrt{s_{\textrm{NN}}} = 5.02$$ sNN =5.02 TeV are reported for the 0–10% and 30–50% centrality classes. This measurement provides access to the jet-like correlation observables in the heavy-flavor sector in Pb–Pb collisions. The analysis is performed for trigger electrons from heavy-flavor hadron decays with transverse momentum$$4< p_\textrm{T}^\textrm{e} < 16~\textrm{GeV}/c$$ 4<pTe<16GeV/c , considering associated particles within the transverse-momentum range$$1< p_\textrm{T}^\textrm{assoc} < 7$$ 1<pTassoc<7 $$\textrm{GeV}/c$$ GeV/c , and a pseudorapidity difference of$$|\Delta \eta |<1$$ |Δη|<1 between the trigger electron and associated particles. The per-trigger nuclear modification factor ($$I_\textrm{AA}$$ IAA ) is calculated to compare the near- and away-side peak yields to those in pp collisions at$$\sqrt{s} = 5.02$$ s=5.02 TeV. In 0–10% central collisions, the$$I_\textrm{AA}$$ IAA indicates a hint of enhancement of associated-particle yields with$$p_\textrm{T}<3$$ pT<3 GeV/con the near side, and a suppression of yields with$$p_\textrm{T}>4$$ pT>4 GeV/con the away side. The$$I_\textrm{AA}$$ IAA for electron triggers from heavy-flavor hadron decays is compared with that for light-flavor and strange-particle triggers to investigate the dependence on different fragmentation processes and parton-medium dynamics, and is found to be the same within uncertainties.

  10. The collinear and transverse-momentum-dependent jet fragmentation function and the radial profile for B± mesons in jets are measured. The B± mesons are reconstructed through the J/ψ(→μ+μ−)K± decay channel using proton-proton collision data collected during 2016–2018 with the LHCb detector at a center-of-mass (c.m.) energy of s=13  TeV , corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4  fb−1 . The results complement recent measurements of jet fragmentation functions for heavy-flavor hadrons and suggest a growing contribution of gluon fragmentation to B± mesons as the jet transverse momentum increases.
