    Abstract In this paper, an experimental forced response analysis for a two degree of freedom piecewise-linear oscillator is discussed. First, a mathematical model of the piecewise linear oscillator is presented. Second, the experimental setup developed for the forced response study is presented. The experimental setup is capable of investigating a two degree of freedom piecewise linear oscillator model. The piecewise linearity is achieved by attaching mechanical stops between two masses that move along common shafts. Forced response tests have been conducted, and the results are presented. Discussion of characteristics of the oscillators are provided based on frequency response, spectrogram, time histories, phase portraits, and Poincaré sections. Period doubling bifurcation has been observed when the excitation frequency changes from a frequency with multiple contacts between the masses to a frequency with single contact between the masses occurs.

  3. In this piece, we share our experiences as we navigate the whiteness of academia. Each of us has taken different pathways to get where we are today as gears within the academic machine. We wrote dangerously to aid our processes of unlearning and (re)learning to disrupt mechanisms of this cruel (white) apparatus. As counterstories do, we hope to be able to help others reflect and determine ways to act against an institution promoting assimilation and erasure of historically and contemporarily excluded populations. Our counterstory centers around the memories of a mathematics education doctoral student, Lily. Her story is presented in a back-and-forth between time periods and gives the reader an opportunity to have their own unique experience with the reading. Instead of a discussion and conclusion, we provide the reader the opportunity to stop or listen to our discussion, available online.

Abstract Sepsis is a potentially fatal physiological state caused by an imbalance in the body's immune response to an infection and is one of the most common causes for deaths in the non‐coronary intensive care unit worldwide. In this article, the state of art on sepsis is presented in a manner that facilitates easy comprehension also for the non‐medical researchers by introducing sepsis, its causes, extent and comparison of diagnostic techniques (conventional labeled as well as label‐free detection). The article also provides a comprehensive discussion on sepsis biomarkers, to help researchers from multi‐disciplinary domain in developing devices and ideas to complement the existing sepsis diagnosis systems for quick and premature detection of the physiological condition and reduce mortality by means of early treatments.

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases organized a symposium in June 2022, to facilitate discussion of the environmental risks for nontuberculous mycobacteria exposure and disease. The expert researchers presented recent studies and identified numerous research gaps. This report summarizes the discussion and identifies six major areas of future research related to culture-based and culture independent laboratory methods, alternate culture media and culturing conditions, frameworks for standardized laboratory methods, improved environmental sampling strategies, validation of exposure measures, and availability of high-quality spatiotemporal data.
