Let V V be a vertex operator superalgebra with the natural order 2 automorphism σ \sigma . Under suitable conditions on V V , the σ \sigma -fixed subspace V 0 ¯ V_{\bar 0} is a vertex operator algebra and the V 0 ¯ V_{\bar 0} -module category C V 0 ¯ \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}} is a modular tensor category. In this paper, we prove that C V 0 ¯ \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}} is a fermionic modular tensor category and the Müger centralizer C V 0 ¯ 0 \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}}^0 of the fermion in C V 0 ¯ \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}} is generated by the irreducible V 0 ¯ V_{\bar 0} -submodules of the V V -modules. In particular, C V 0 ¯ 0 \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}}^0 is a super-modular tensor category and C V 0 ¯ \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}} is a minimal modular extension of C V 0 ¯ 0 \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}}^0 . We provide a construction of a vertex operator superalgebra V l V^l for each positive integer l l such that C ( V l ) 0 ¯ \mathcal {C}_{{(V^l)_{\bar 0}}} is a minimal modular extension of C V 0 ¯ 0 \mathcal {C}_{V_{\bar 0}}^0 . We prove that these modular tensor categories C ( V l ) 0 ¯ \mathcal {C}_{{(V^l)_{\bar 0}}} are uniquely determined, up to equivalence, by the congruence class of l l modulo 16.

            null (Ed.)We introduce and study the doubly balanced connected graph partitioning problem: Let G =( V , E ) be a connected graph with a weight (supply/demand) function p : V → {−1, +1} satisfying p ( V )=∑ j &isin V p ( j ) = 0. The objective is to partition G into ( V 1 , V 2 ) such that G [ V 1 ] and G [ V 2 ] are connected, ∣ p ( V 1 )∣,∣ p ( V 2 )∣≤ c p , and max{ ∣ V 1 / V 2 ∣,∣ V 2 / V 1 ∣} ≤ c s , for some constants c p and c s . When G is 2-connected, we show that a solution with c p =1 and c s =2 always exists and can be found in randomized polynomial time. Moreover, when G is 3-connected, we show that there is always a “perfect” solution (a partition with p ( V 1 )= p ( V 2 )=0 and ∣ V 1 ∣=∣ V 2 ∣, if ∣ V ∣≡ 0 (mod 4)), and it can be found in randomized polynomial time. Our techniques can be extended, with similar results, to the case in which the weights are arbitrary (not necessarily ±1), and to the case that p ( V )≠ 0 and the excess supply/demand should be split evenly. They also apply to the problem of partitioning a graph with two types of nodes into two large connected subgraphs that preserve approximately the proportion of the two types.more » « less

            Abstract Let $$V_*\otimes V\rightarrow {\mathbb {C}}$$ V ∗ ⊗ V → C be a non-degenerate pairing of countable-dimensional complex vector spaces V and $$V_*$$ V ∗ . The Mackey Lie algebra $${\mathfrak {g}}=\mathfrak {gl}^M(V,V_*)$$ g = gl M ( V , V ∗ ) corresponding to this pairing consists of all endomorphisms $$\varphi $$ φ of V for which the space $$V_*$$ V ∗ is stable under the dual endomorphism $$\varphi ^*: V^*\rightarrow V^*$$ φ ∗ : V ∗ → V ∗ . We study the tensor Grothendieck category $${\mathbb {T}}$$ T generated by the $${\mathfrak {g}}$$ g -modules V , $$V_*$$ V ∗ and their algebraic duals $$V^*$$ V ∗ and $$V^*_*$$ V ∗ ∗ . The category $${{\mathbb {T}}}$$ T is an analogue of categories considered in prior literature, the main difference being that the trivial module $${\mathbb {C}}$$ C is no longer injective in $${\mathbb {T}}$$ T . We describe the injective hull I of $${\mathbb {C}}$$ C in $${\mathbb {T}}$$ T , and show that the category $${\mathbb {T}}$$ T is Koszul. In addition, we prove that I is endowed with a natural structure of commutative algebra. We then define another category $$_I{\mathbb {T}}$$ I T of objects in $${\mathbb {T}}$$ T which are free as I -modules. Our main result is that the category $${}_I{\mathbb {T}}$$ I T is also Koszul, and moreover that $${}_I{\mathbb {T}}$$ I T is universal among abelian $${\mathbb {C}}$$ C -linear tensor categories generated by two objects X , Y with fixed subobjects $$X'\hookrightarrow X$$ X ′ ↪ X , $$Y'\hookrightarrow Y$$ Y ′ ↪ Y and a pairing $$X\otimes Y\rightarrow {\mathbf{1 }}$$ X ⊗ Y → 1 where 1 is the monoidal unit. We conclude the paper by discussing the orthogonal and symplectic analogues of the categories $${\mathbb {T}}$$ T and $${}_I{\mathbb {T}}$$ I T .more » « less

Abstract Let M be a complete Riemannian manifold and suppose {p\in M} . For each unit vector {v\in T_{p}M} , the Jacobi operator , {\mathcal{J}_{v}:v^{\perp}\rightarrow v^{\perp}} is the symmetric endomorphism, {\mathcal{J}_{v}(w)=R(w,v)v} . Then p is an isotropic point if there exists a constant {\kappa_{p}\in{\mathbb{R}}} such that {\mathcal{J}_{v}=\kappa_{p}\operatorname{Id}_{v^{\perp}}} for each unit vector {v\in T_{p}M} . If all points are isotropic, then M is said to be isotropic; it is a classical result of Schur that isotropic manifolds of dimension at least 3 have constant sectional curvatures. In this paper we consider almost isotropic manifolds , i.e. manifolds having the property that for each {p\in M} , there exists a constant {\kappa_{p}\in\mathbb{R}} such that the Jacobi operators {\mathcal{J}_{v}} satisfy {\operatorname{rank}({\mathcal{J}_{v}-\kappa_{p}\operatorname{Id}_{v^{\perp}}}% )\leq 1} for each unit vector {v\in T_{p}M} . Our main theorem classifies the almost isotropic simply connected Kähler manifolds, proving that those of dimension {d=2n\geqslant 4} are either isometric to complex projective space or complex hyperbolic space or are totally geodesically foliated by leaves isometric to {{\mathbb{C}}^{n-1}} .more » « less

Liu, W.; Wang, Y.; Guo, B.; Tang, X.; Zeng, S. (Ed.)We study the v\bar v\-pair emission from electrons and protons in a relativistic quantum approach. In this work we calculate the luminosity of the v\bar v\-pairs emitted from neutron-star-matter with a strong magnetic field, and find that this luminosity is much larger than that in the modified Urca process. The v\bar v\-pair emission processes in strong magnetic fields significantly contribute to the cooling of the magnetars.more » « less
