Recent measurements of charm-baryon production in hadronic collisions have questioned the universality of charm-quark fragmentation across different collision systems. In this work the fragmentation of charm quarks into charm baryons is probed, by presenting the first measurement of the longitudinal jet momentum fraction carried by baryons, , in hadronic collisions. The results are obtained in proton-proton ( ) collisions at at the LHC, with baryons and charged (track-based) jets reconstructed in the transverse momentum intervals of and , respectively. The distribution is compared to a measurement of -tagged charged jets in collisions as well as to 8 simulations. The data hints that the fragmentation of charm quarks into charm baryons is softer with respect to charm mesons, in the measured kinematic interval, as predicted by hadronization models which include color correlations beyond leading-color in the string formation. © 2024 CERN, for the ALICE Collaboration2024CERN

Exploring the Strong Interaction of Three-Body Systems at the LHC
Deuterons are atomic nuclei composed of a neutron and a proton held together by the strong interaction. Unbound ensembles composed of a deuteron and a third nucleon have been investigated in the past using scattering experiments, and they constitute a fundamental reference in nuclear physics to constrain nuclear interactions and the properties of nuclei. In this work, and femtoscopic correlations measured by the ALICE Collaboration in proton-proton ( ) collisions at at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented. It is demonstrated that correlations in momentum space between deuterons and kaons or protons allow us to study three-hadron systems at distances comparable with the proton radius. The analysis of the correlation shows that the relative distances at which deuterons and protons or kaons are produced are around 2 fm. The analysis of the correlation shows that only a full three-body calculation that accounts for the internal structure of the deuteron can explain the data. In particular, the sensitivity of the observable to the short-range part of the interaction is demonstrated. These results indicate that correlations involving light nuclei in collisions at the LHC will also provide access to any three-body system in the strange and charm sectors. The nonresonant continuum processes are studied with the invariant mass of the centrally produced two-pion system in the resonance-free region, or . Differential cross sections as functions of the azimuthal angle between the surviving protons, squared exchanged four-momenta, and are measured in a wide region of scattered proton transverse momenta, between 0.2 and 0.8 GeV, and for pion rapidities . A rich structure of interactions related to double-pomeron exchange is observed. A parabolic minimum in the distribution of the two-proton azimuthal angle is observed for the first time. It can be interpreted as an effect of additional pomeron exchanges between the protons from the interference between the bare and the rescattered amplitudes. Using the Statistical Hadronization framework, it is possible to obtain the value of the electric charge and baryon chemical potentials, and , with unprecedented precision. A centrality-differential study of the antiparticle-to-particle yield ratios of charged pions, protons, baryons, and light (hyper)nuclei is performed. A data scouting technique is employed to record events with low jet scalar transverse momentum sum values. The electroweak production of particles predicted in -parity violating supersymmetric models is probed for the first time with fully hadronic final states. Acharya, S; Adamová, D; Aglieri_Rinella, G; Aglietta, L; Agnello, M; Agrawal, N; Ahammed, Z; Ahmad, S; Ahn, S U; Ahuja, I; et al (, Physical Review D)The two-particle momentum correlation functions between charm mesons ( and ) and charged light-flavor mesons ( and ) in all charge combinations are measured for the first time by the ALICE Collaboration in high-multiplicity proton–proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of . For DK and pairs, the experimental results are in agreement with theoretical predictions of the residual strong interaction based on quantum chromodynamics calculations on the lattice and chiral effective field theory. In the case of and pairs, tension between the calculations including strong interactions and the measurement is observed. For all particle pairs, the data can be adequately described by Coulomb interaction only, indicating a shallow interaction between charm and light-flavor mesons. Finally, the scattering lengths governing the residual strong interaction of the and systems are determined by fitting the experimental correlation functions with a model that employs a Gaussian potential. Unbound ensembles composed of a deuteron and a third nucleon have been investigated in the past using scattering experiments, and they constitute a fundamental reference in nuclear physics to constrain nuclear interactions and the properties of nuclei. In this work,K+−dandp−dfemtoscopic correlations measured by the ALICE Collaboration in proton-proton (pp) collisions ats=13 TeVat the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented. It is demonstrated that correlations in momentum space between deuterons and kaons or protons allow us to study three-hadron systems at distances comparable with the proton radius. The analysis of theK+−dcorrelation shows that the relative distances at which deuterons and protons or kaons are produced are around 2 fm. The analysis of thep−dcorrelation shows that only a full three-body calculation that accounts for the internal structure of the deuteron can explain the data. In particular, the sensitivity of the observable to the short-range part of the interaction is demonstrated. These results indicate that correlations involving light nuclei inppcollisions at the LHC will also provide access to any three-body system in the strange and charm sectors.
