Title: The quasi-periods of the Weierstrass zeta-function
We study the ratiop=\eta_{1}/\eta_{2}of the quasi-periods of the Weierstrass\zeta-function in dependence of the ratio\tau=\omega_{1}/\omega_{2}of the generators of the underlying rank-2 lattice. We will give an explicit geometric description of the map\tau\mapsto p(\tau). As a consequence, we obtain an explanation of a theorem by Heins who showed thatpattains every value in the Riemann sphere infinitely often. Our main result is implicit in the classical literature, but it seems not to be very well known.Essentially, this is an expository paper. We hope that it is easily accessible and may serve as an introduction to these classical themes.  more » « less

  1. We consider the 2D incompressible Euler equation on a bounded simply connected domain\Omega. We give sufficient conditions on the domain\Omegaso that for any initial vorticity\omega_{0} \in L^{\infty}(\Omega), the weak solutions are unique. Our sufficient condition is slightly more general than the condition that\Omegais aC^{1,\alpha}domain for some\alpha>0, with its boundary belonging toH^{3/2}(\mathbb{S}^{1}). As a corollary, we prove uniqueness forC^{1,\alpha}domains for\alpha >1/2and for convex domains which are alsoC^{1,\alpha}domains for some\alpha >0. Previously, uniqueness for general initial vorticity inL^{\infty}(\Omega)was only known forC^{1,1}domains with possibly a finite number of acute angled corners. The fundamental barrier to proving uniqueness below theC^{1,1}regularity is the fact that for less regular domains, the velocity near the boundary is no longer log-Lipschitz. We overcome this barrier by defining a new change of variable which we then use to define a novel energy functional.

  2. We identify the motivicKGL/2-local sphere as the fiber of\psi^{3}-1on(2,\eta)-completed HermitianK-theory, over any base scheme containing1/2. This is a motivic analogue of the classical resolution of theK(1)-local sphere, and extends to a description of theKGL/2-localization of an arbitrary motivic spectrum. Our proof relies on a novel conservativity argument that should be of broad utility in stable motivic homotopy theory.

  3. Abstract This paper introduces a nonconvex approach for sparse signal recovery, proposing a novel model termed the$$\tau _2$$ τ 2 -model, which utilizes the squared$$\ell _1/\ell _2$$ 1 / 2 norms for this purpose. Our model offers an advancement over the$$\ell _0$$ 0 norm, which is often computationally intractable and less effective in practical scenarios. Grounded in the concept of effective sparsity, our approach robustly measures the number of significant coordinates in a signal, making it a powerful alternative for sparse signal estimation. The$$\tau _2$$ τ 2 -model is particularly advantageous due to its computational efficiency and practical applicability. We detail two accompanying algorithms based on Dinkelbach’s procedure and a difference of convex functions strategy. The first algorithm views the model as a linear-constrained quadratic programming problem in noiseless scenarios and as a quadratic-constrained quadratic programming problem in noisy scenarios. The second algorithm, capable of handling both noiseless and noisy cases, is based on the alternating direction linearized proximal method of multipliers. We also explore the model’s properties, including the existence of solutions under certain conditions, and discuss the convergence properties of the algorithms. Numerical experiments with various sensing matrices validate the effectiveness of our proposed model.

  4. Abstract We present a measurement of the ratio$$ {R}_{\mu }=\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {\mu}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_{\mu }{\nu}_{\tau}\right)/\mathcal{B}\left({\tau}^{-}\to {e}^{-}{\overline{\nu}}_e{\nu}_{\tau}\right) $$ R μ = B τ μ ν ¯ μ ν τ / B τ e ν ¯ e ν τ of branching fractions$$ \mathcal{B} $$ B of theτlepton decaying to muons or electrons using data collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKBe+ecollider. The sample has an integrated luminosity of 362 ± 2 fb−1at a centre-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV. Using an optimised event selection, a binned maximum likelihood fit is performed using the momentum spectra of the electron and muon candidates. The result,Rμ= 0.9675 ± 0.0007 ± 0.0036, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to theWboson inτdecays of 0.9974 ± 0.0019, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity.

  5. Abstract The polarization ofτleptons is measured using leptonic and hadronicτlepton decays in Z →τ+τevents in proton-proton collisions at$$ \sqrt{s} $$ s = 13 TeV recorded by CMS at the CERN LHC with an integrated luminosity of 36.3 fb−1. The measuredτlepton polarization at the Z boson mass pole is$$ {\mathcal{P}}_{\tau}\left(\textrm{Z}\right) $$ P τ Z = −0.144 ± 0.006 (stat) ± 0.014 (syst) = −0.144 ± 0.015, in good agreement with the measurement of theτlepton asymmetry parameter ofAτ= 0.1439 ± 0.0043 =$$ -{\mathcal{P}}_{\tau}\left(\textrm{Z}\right) $$ P τ Z at LEP. Theτlepton polarization depends on the ratio of the vector to axial-vector couplings of theτleptons in the neutral current expression, and thus on the effective weak mixing angle sin2$$ {\theta}_{\textrm{W}}^{\textrm{eff}} $$ θ W eff , independently of the Z boson production mechanism. The obtained value sin2$$ {\theta}_{\textrm{W}}^{\textrm{eff}} $$ θ W eff = 0.2319 ± 0.0008(stat) ± 0.0018(syst) = 0.2319 ± 0.0019 is in good agreement with measurements ate+ecolliders.
